That's disgusting, are we back to cars made of recycled washing machines now? fundamentally that will have little effect as it's such a big lump of metal except for when it attacks all the other parts like the castle nut.

Looks like it was completely untreated.

I'll call in the dealership this week and have a look under a few older 107's. When you look at the build quality of these everything is cheap.

Cheap car is cheap for a reason.

Perfectly normal. Although I am surprised drive shafts are not painted as this could lead to premature failure if water gets under the balancing weights.

Yeah, it doesn't look good, then again it appears to be unpainted. It's a cheap car built down to a price.

That's kind of the scary thing!

How much does a lick of paint cost FFS!

What else have they gone cheap on??

(My own strategy has always been (very) old cars fully refurbed (By Me!)! I Don't think I would ever be happy with something "new"! )

The rusty bits are great big solid lumps of cast iron, if you drowned them in sea water they'd still last for 20 years, there is rust and there is surface corrosion.
This is not something you should be unduly worried about and if you are, buy a more expensive car in the first place. :D

Yeah, they are little heaps of **** tbh

Enjoyable enough to hurl around town for a couple of miles, but they rattle and squeak and just generally feel cheap - because they are, get exactly what you pay for so need to set expectations at the right level! They're an 8 grand car in a world where a fiesta costs 14k, tells you all you need to know. For the use ours gets though ( I.e I don't need to drive it and it literally goes round the corner most days) its perfectly suited

Flip side is they don't really fall apart as there's nothing to fall off!

Lol they're still good fun to drive and perfectly viable for kicking around town - just not for spending a decent amount of time in.

They're no worse than any equivalent or most cars a size up, bar the fiesta and its vag counterparts really.

Edit - having literally just picked up my glorious courtesy car I can confirm that the newishvford ka is also a complete pile of dung. In fact the pug is better imo

Just had a look under my 2011 259k mile truck, I couldn't find much if any evidence of rust, plenty of dirt though!

A few scabby looking bits that are just accumulated dirt upon closer inspection - pretty good for a commercial IMO!

Looks like Peugeot didn't do a good job of rust preventing / sealing it, if they bothered at all!

Whilst you could argue it's normal, I wouldn't be too impressed seeing that on a new car, it does however reaffirm my suspicion that French build quality sucks!!

As promised

3 years old and about 10k miles in:

Not a great photo but you should be able to see enough to confirm it's no worse and that it was obviously sent out the same way

Thinking about it, I don't think I've ever seen component surface rust that bad! Not even on my 1990 MX5.

Whilst it is purely cosmetic as stated previously in this thread, it still looks shoddy.

That's shocking if you ask me, my 15 year old car has no rust on any of the suspension components, nor on the front calipers or brackets and driveshafts, I've also worked on other older cars and no rust in these areas.

Unless you have refurbished the suspension then I don't believe you. I don't think I've ever seen an older car that didn't have at least some surface rust on suspension components. The uprights in particular are almost always rusty, though it a much darker colour and doesn't look as obvious as in the OP's pics.

Not been refurbed or waxoiled in my ownership, and car has recipients and records since first ownership and only had shocks replaced at one point in its life. I will take a proper look again next time I have the wheels off which should be in Easter when I do the brake inspection, but I don't recall any rust, the wishbones are coated in some black material so look like they are treated well.

On a side note doing a google search seems like rust on these is normal, but still I wouldn't be too happy for a new cars to be like that even if its a budget car.
