too many people in London

Being probably one of the most famous capital cites in the world, of course it will be busy

If you don't like London, maybe you should try Tokyo? or NYC

We like visiting London as tourists and our next visit will be in July where we'll be watching the Tour de France amongst other things :)

Moved to London 4 years ago.

Love it. Yes its busy smack bang in central, but London is a huge place which offers so many different things.

I hate crowds and queues etc, but what do you expect in the capital, if you are going smack bang in central you will get that, but London offers a lot more than just piccadily/leicester square etc.

Yup cost of living is more expensive, but you get paid a lot more and jobs in London look good on your CV. Don't just jump the gun and say it sucks because you have been there a few times as a "tourist". If you are my age (Late 20s) its a fantastic place to live.

I hate London, I shall never understand why anyone would willingly live there.
Usually if I have to travel there on business it's under protest.

I mean it stinks, it's expensive (five quid for a pint? what?), you can't drive so you have to take **** smelling public transport which is also expensive, a 1 bed flat costs more than a mansion in the cotswolds, it's full of criminals and especially violent gang related stuff, there's people begging for money wherever you go, no one seems to have time for a chat on the bus - it's all distant and impersonal. Not to mention you can't just think "I'll go for a nice walk" and pop down to the local field, no, the nearest patch of grass is miles away and probably covered in dog turds and hoodys.

Horrendous place.

Maybe you should stop taking busses through Tower Hamlets. Central London is nothing like that. The tubes rarely smell, there is very little crime (or at least I've never seen any), very few beggers, the tube is cheap, efficient and gets you where you want to go quicker than a car (or at least a taxi). I'll admit, prices are horrendous, but then that's in part due to the density and prosperity of the area...

There are many reasons not to like London (I work here and don't like it), however almost all of the reasons you mention aren't relevant for most of London... It's like the moaning about black snot. Never had it and never known anyone that's had it... Maybe I don't go round sniffing taxi exhausts though! (Again, the air quality is horrible and I firmly believe more cars, vans and taxis should be banned from many parts of central London, at least during the day, doesn't mean you get black snot)

The OP and some other comments in this thread are ridiculous. Having been to enough cities around the world, I can quite easily say London is the best 'all round' city in the world.

Seriously the things being moaned about are pathetic -

Price of a pint - yes it's a tad pricey in Central London but no more expensive than most other capital cities.... Try going to Oslo or Stockholm and enjoy paying £8 a pint.

No grass or fields to have a walk in? Central you have regents park, Hyde park, st james' park. In surrounding boroughs there are loads of nice parks and open spaces and no, not all of them have hoodies in....

It's busy - well no ****

You can't drive? Yes you can. Central can be congested but the surrounding boroughs are like any other city. On top of that you have the best public transport system (tubes and buses) in the world.

Have the people moaning been to any other cities in the world?

This was my argument years ago but people misunderstood what I meant. There are far to many people in London just as there are far to many people in the World.
In days of old the World could only sustain a certain amount of people but these days with robbing resources from the Earth we are able to sustain billions more than we are s'posed to.
We need a Cull & we need it now.

Not to mention the unpleasant smells off of a lot of tube patrons. Man some people can't half stink.

It's all part of The Great Forced Multicultural Experiment.

I hope you felt suitably Enriched by meeting people from cultures that don't consider regular bathing important.

Exactly this.

I like london, outside the tourist areas its just like any other city. The transport is also MEGA cheap! £1.45 for a bus ride, its £2.50 here.

If you choose the right boozers it's worth paying the premium for nice beers and decent people. I had some really nice beers from around Europe in the Sloany Pony and it was well worth £5 a pint.

Avoid the West-End/Oxford Circus tourist hell hole and the rest of London is pretty nice.

Yep this, i dont tend to go into London all that often now..the outskirts of London isnt so bad though.

As for smelly people??, imagine how i feel every single day when i have to get on the tube to go into work and then back home. Summer time is the worst especially at rush hr...dear mother of god i have to sometimes stop myself from wretching :/

We need a Cull & we need it now.

Is this you offering yourself to be culled? Very good of you as most people who suggest that seem to mean that it is for other people to have it done to them so it's rare to see someone actually taking responsibility and acknowledging their part in the problem they have identified... ;)

London probably is too busy but that's part of the trade-off for it being a hugely successful capital city. If it wasn't this busy or successful then we might well have more of a problem in our economy at least, it's arguable about whether there could be a better split of resource allocation and if that would improve the situation for the rest of the country but that's probably a whole new debate in itself.

Have you actually been to other cities? London is an unfriendly, polluted ****hole compared to actual nice cities like Barcelona.

Was in our fine Capital for a couple of days this weekend and like being a tourist there but have to say there are just too many people.

Too many people.

Everywhere you go there's someone coming towards you bumping you etc.

Not to mention the unpleasant smells off of a lot of tube patrons. Man some people can't half stink.

Anyone else think it could do with another plague to reduce the numbers.

Feel sorry for those that have to wade through it every day.

I do realise the irony of my post since I was there as a visitor thus adding to the chaos.

Perhaps I've lived in the land of chocolate too long :D

I agree.

I recommend you visit Bombay before you next visit London. It will make London feel deserted.
