I have lots of luck with gears. Adjusted mine before the weekend and then played with them a few times since. They seem to suck no matter what I do so either I'm doing something terribly wrong or...I'm doing something terribly wrong. Awesome :/

What groupset have you got frenchtart and what's the age? Sometimes you can adjust forever more and never get there.. if you've got stretched cables or cables that stick in the cable guide then you're not going to get far with the adjustment.

Huh. I did wonder that, but I checked zinn and that said to put a ferrule on each end. I wonder why the cables got so mangled at that end, then.

Sheldon says put a ferrule on each end, but notes that some cable entry points are too small for a ferrule, so I guess it depends on whether a 2300 housing would accept a ferrule.

2300 needs a ferrule on the end at the shifter same as most shimano shifters. Pretty sure campag gear doesn't use a ferrule there.

Brake cables don't go in with a ferrule at the shifter though.

I've saw quite a few outer cables get pulled through the ferrule in time, metal ones too.

All this talk of DIY is making me feel lazy! My bikes going into the lbs today for a check over, probably new chainrings and cables, I also want to get him to look at the bottom bracket as it's been on for over 2 years and there is a definite grinding whire when spun.

Ah well, did this 82 yesterday - http://www.strava.com/activities/125299729

I guess I'm pretty happy with it, didn't feel great for the last 20 or so which just shows where my fitness has suffered the most after being off the bike for a while. Still, gives me hope for next week!

Hi Monsieur Tart!

As I've mentioned before, as the chain stretches the drivetrain wears as a whole unit.
If you don't catch this chain stretch in time, the teeth of your chainrings and rear cassette wear (become slightly hook shaped).

This will still function with a stretched chain.

If you replace the chain with new at this stage, you will suffer from chainsuck as the hook shaped chainring teeth 'hold onto' the shorter chain.

Sounds to me like your chainrings need replacing, but it needs looking at ideally.

Use one of these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/...nitedKingdom&gclid=CJHOwoWjvL0CFTHItAod5TUACw to prevent further issues once you have replaced the worn parts.

I bought and fitted a new rear tyre... The old one had started to cut up a bit and had cord showing where some rubber was missing.

Got a Bontrager R3 from my LBS, checked the reviews of it on road.cc first and they gave it a favourable one. Wasn't the cheapest but gotta support the shops now and again!

I changed the rear cassette at the same time as the chain unfortunately.

Thought I was doing well today. Slight Easterly wind but still 36-40kph consistently.

30.7kph average.

Bloody junctions.

That's good though, but yeah once I'm out of town it's long country roads pretty much all the way, and more importantly all to myself. I'm going to have to start changing to KM!

Got my carbon bike and aero wheels out for the first time this year on Saturday, i was excited to finally let her loose and set out to do a 40mile shakedown. Not sure why but i was struggling big time. I didnt feel in a good position at all. Really weird but i think i nailed my seating position on my winter bike perfectly because i felt like i was using muscles i have never used before on the good bike! the winter bikes about 5-7kg heavier and i was faster on that than the carbon one! weird. Adjusted the seat a bit last night and bought it to work today, its a 35 mile ride home so hopefully it goes a bit better.

The padding on fake shorts is probably not ideal for anything more than 30 miles or so, but the tops are fine. I've got a couple and they fare just as well as the other tops I have from the budget end of the market.
