Titanfall (Respawn Entertainment's new IP)

It does seem that way sometimes, can't see me playing it for hours and hours...

I still believe they have something good with Titanfall, what they have I think works well....but i 'still' feel there's something always missing....

I know it's suppose to be centered around 'online multi-playing', but why stop there?!?....Imagine in-depth campaigns and a huge universe to explore, it would be awesome!

Lets see what expansions bring to the table, maybe.

They could be thinking of that as a premise for another game

How much more will I play it, I don't know. I'm not far off unlocking most of the things on offer... There's something that is a little insubstantial about it all, with the graphics as they are and the limited content it feels a lot like an F2P game

This is what I don't get. How does the number of unlocks effect how much there is to find in a game? I'd prefer zero unlocks. I suspect - not directing this at you in particular, Skyfall - that people these days are so used to fps with little depth to basic gameplay that they tar every fps with the same brush. The shooting and movement mechanics in games like CoD or BF, for example, are rudimentary at best. Take away the unlocks and there isn't much left. Ironically, Titanfall is the first mainstream PC fps in a while that does have some depth to gameplay. It's quick - it will take multiple 10s of hours to start getting the hang of the movement system, more to master it - and the shooting, while still pretty basic, is at least fast and twitchy - with plenty verticality and mid air shooting going on. With Titanfall, for the first time in a while I feel the need to log on and practise improving my skills, rather than just getting involved in a Benny Hill chase unlockathon.

I have to admit I am really enjoying Titanfall, I don't think it was worth the £28 I paid for, but it is good fun and certainly more enjoyable than your average game of call of duty :)

*here here* I totally agree, I would also add that when you die in Titanfall you feel better than COD games. In COD you feel like the person is rubbing it in your face, at least that how I feel. As for titanfall I am still happy, like I can admit the opponent (in most cases) is actually a better player and not some spawn camper noob like we see every day in CoD.

I've put about 35 hours into it and not far of 'G3'. Really enjoying it and it feels as though other shooters have been lacking for many years (eg COD) and this is just a breath of fresh air. You arent running across a map for 10 mins only to get shot and spawn miles away from the action again (BF4). You arent encouraged to camp to build up a kill streak (COD). Instead you are encouraged to go in all guns blazing to reduce the build time of your titan. It adds some new things and new combinations of things that might be in other games, but not all together.

For me this is the best game I have played in a few years

I would love some sort of perk that makes you immune to electric smoke. They could balance it as one of the pilot load outs. Basically every Pilot runs it otherwise you're dead meat.

Same with titan loadouts, as I've now got specific titans for a selection of levels I know they perform the best on.
So far I'm not really finding that my stryder loadout is inedequate for any of the maps, I did have a few setups for ogre and atlas but I never really use them, one on one I am rarely ever beat in a titan. I usually only lose it to rodeo or when I'm ganged up on from multiple angles. Or as last night when I got stuck on terrain!

I still haven't really got the hang of bouncing around the map or slaughtering droves of grunts, but when I get in the titan I feel king.

I see what people say about it being a more unadulterated FPS and I get that, it's one of the reasons why I like the game. I've played a lot of COD and Battlefield over the past few years and this feels more like playing Halo which I do miss.

It's not even just about unlockables, it's just about the experience of the game outside of playing a round, for example a few things that would make me engage more with the game would be:

A match recording feature as present in Halo and COD games. I really enjoy working with these to get memorable videos and screenshots from games.

A bit of player/titan/weapon customisation, something to add a little more variety to players.

Some more in depth stats, like round history available on the web. I say this, but at the same time there is always a part of me that says that we should get rid of stats completely in games like this. Like no information whatsoever about kills or deaths or anything. It affects people's play styles and limits the tactical opportunities that people want to undertake.

I would have liked something else done with the campaign, as it stands it's actually pretty much pointless it being there, it only stands as a way for very low level players to play against any level of player with any level of skill or experience. AKA all the level 1 - 10 getting beasted by prestige level 4 - 8 players.

There are a lot of people out there who love the minimal approach but it's more personal preference, I remember when I tried to suggest that CS should be a little more contemporary and was instantly torn to shreds. It's horses for courses and like it or not, the more hardcore the game feels, the more niche it gets.

The main point is, is it an investable product for the consumer? I don't regret spending my money on it because I really enjoy it. But for the general consumer they have to weigh the pros and cons of a game against it's contemporaries, with a price of £30 plus in most places does it give as much value for money as COD or Battlefield?

Don't get me wrong, I have not completed the campaign in BLOPS 2 and haven't even started it in BF4. because that's not what I'm interested in but regardless of that it takes quite a bit of investment from the devs to add those features and all the extra content that is unlockable.

Which is why titanfall feels more like a free to play game like blacklight, it's stripped down and streamlined but most of all it's free for those that want it too be.

had some epic games tonight. when you have games like that you realize how good this game can be sometimes :D

totally kicked **** myself too and in similar situations. Had an appalling CTF match though. team of runabouts not defending or attacking and an enemy team of shotgun lovers.

just had a game similar now.

i had 19 pilot kills we lost in pilot hunter by two points :(

baaad team :p

for those who don't play this gametype you should try it one of main modes i play now.

I haven't played pilot hunter yet... Maybe tonight after the bingo.

I feel like I'm playing well in a normal game and don't die very often but I also don't generally get that many kills and quite often my titan kills end up as assists, I usually do a rather large percentage of the damage bus miss the final shot.

I also don't ever seem to see a lot of grunts, but I guess the main thing is that enjoy the game and actually feel like I'm doing well and that's all that really matters.

It's usually a good thing to stick to another Titan. Running in pairs usually means much death, many dismemberment for the opposing team.
Oh yes, I always stick with another titan, hence the aforementioned assists. Except when I'm getting creamed then I just bug out lol

whos up for some ocuk pilot hunting later ? :D

I would play some team games tonight but will be playing BF4 most of the time as my housemate is not getting in on the titanfall action :(

Add me if you haven't already and feel free to chat or invite no matter what I'm playing, I'll let you know if I'm coming. I'm V4NT0M on Origin.
