best performance diesel >6k?

The title of this thread is "best performance diesel >6k?" I know nothing about cars but would imagine you could afford the newest and very best with this budget!

Usual story of 'poster actually knows what he wants and doesn't listen to sound advise or is stuck with is 'opinion' and nothing we can do will sway him'.

Also 50MPG average over a tank on a 1.8T VAG lump? You're joking! Most I've ever had on my Cupra 180 is 34MPG according to the OBC. Usually it's around 30-32 although I've yet to do a tank to tank refill or used an app like fuelly.

Low pressure turbo tuned for almost 50mpg. ;)

Will beat a NA petrol any day of the week.

Don't be silly. I have the same engine as you with S-tronic in a lighter car and I get 33mpg average as does everyone else on Audi-Sport with the same engine. Highest I have ever seen is 45mpg on a completely flat road for 8 miles stuck behind a digger transporter at 40mph.

Yer dam i am getting old.... i am still thinking TSI's are like still brand new thing and not in a 5k price range.

(its not the cool 230-270+ bhp TSI like you get in things like audi allroads and GTI's and and TT's and stuff so yer.)

Well actually it is a destroked 2.0t FSI with a slightly smaller turbo. You can fit a K04, remap, and a bigger exhaust and see 330hp though it would still be 2wd.

That's what I get.

Even on a long run - I did Bodmin - Liverpool on £60 @ £1.32p/l and had 1/8th of a tank left @ average 70mph.

It's a different engine!
It's tuned for better economy and emissions than the 20vt
44mpg is achieveable on a run however 28mpg is more realistic in town.

How is Stronic more economical than a manual box?
I think you will find the opposite is true however modern autos are much better than the older ones in this dept.
The A3 isn't much lighter than the Octavia, what with it being exactly the same Golf chassis and all!

Audi A3 and Octavia 2 are both based on the VAG A5 chassis.
This is a Golf platform.
(Nothing to do with the Audi A5)

Modern incarnations of the 1.8 TFSI have better emissions and fuel economy.
(I think Audi are quoting 58 mpg!) all though I suspect that is shenanigans!

I am referring to the engine in the car I linked which is 2008.

OP, you shouldn't be spending more than £6k on a 'performance' diesel if you're on £800 a month.

Apart from getting the thread title completely wrong, you're bonkers to even consider something like this.

As driving is, "your only pleasure", get an MX-5 for a grand.

lol no sign of OP, i've de-railed the thread into a Skodas are great thread :D

I suppose what I was trying to say, the best cheap diesel is a petrol.

Pretty much this, there is little joy to be taken from driving a diesel only the potential for some wallet-raping bills that will leave you with very little money.

Please tell me more about this petrol turbo car for under 5k which will do almost 50mpg.

Read the thread.

Problem is, Skoda are a little 'optimistic' in their offical MPG claims.

I reality the 1.8 TSi is very similar to the 1.8 20 vt (however newer versions may be better).

48 extra urban in an octavia?

I owned a 150bhp 1.8T Passat, it would never go over 34mpg extra urban and i did over 100k in it.
