BMW and M Power Owners

I suppose there's other factors; weight of the driver and type of clothing are probably big ones in terms of creases and wear. I'd imagine someone slim who wears trousers most of the time to have less wear. Whereas a fatty, who wears jeans and does lots of short trips getting in and out the car to fair worse.

Well the time has come for me to look for a possible replacement to my M3 coupe registered Sept 2011, base model with DCT and 30k miles.

The px valuations have been £29.5k and £30k against a new F-Type V6 and RRS HSE Dynamic. I've not had any figures yet from BMW to change to the new BMW M3/4.

The car has been great so far (touches wood) it's only been in the garage for services and not missed a beat since new. I've averaged 25mpg from driving on a mixture of roads which i don't think is too bad.

Would I have another one?? Only if it was heavily discounted like this one was. I just haven't felt the quality of the interior matched its price tag, plus now is there enough difference between the new M3/4 and non M cars? Time will tell.

I will create a thread as my search and test drives develop.

It never will though, this is always the issue with top end ultra performance versions of conventional cars. Although its a £55k car, it was also a £19k car at the bottom of the range so general quality levels, fit and finish of the interior etc will reflect that. You are paying for the performance, the drive-ability and the image not the quality.

Whereas a £55k Porsche doesnt need to be built to a standard that makes the £19k pricepoint profitable..

My point is don't pay someone 50 quid to do something you can so easily do yourself. A diag cable is something it's really good to have anyway.

What kind of cable do I need? Presumably I'll need some software for the coding too? Quite fancy having a go at coding myself if it's that easy to do.

Mine are standard not sports but also look immaculate at 56k. No wear or creases.

Yours is Sophisto Grey, right?

How do you find the colour in direct sunlight? Does it look great, or does it show swirl marks and minor scratches like black does?

I had a black car once and hated the fact every time the sun came out it just looked shabby. I swore to never have another again, but I'm just wondering how dark grey needs to get before it gets annoying like black.

Yeah its Sophistico. I'm pretty impressed with it to be honest, it's much better than my A3 for showing swirls. I think the metallic hides a lot as it looks amazing when the sun hits it.

I'll run the DA over it before summer but I doubt it's ever been polished and still looks great at 4 years old.

It's great on fuel, saw 46mpg on my commute the other day (20 mins of A road). Still unconvinced by the odd steering feel but only had it a week.

Hmmm, very interesting. So based on current experience it's nowhere near as bad as a black car? Whats it like for showing stonechips on the bumper etc?

I don't find it anywhere near as bad for showing swirl marks as any of my previous black cars. But I do love a black car. Most of my friends were trying to tell me I made a mistake choosing the Sophisto instead of the black. They ALL ate their words.

Can't comment on stonechips yet though. Only 7k in.

It's got some stone chips, they're far less bothersome than my old car again which where the primer would show through. They normally bug me a lot but they're not a problem tbh. Got some touch up paint I'll fill them with before I give it a proper polish.

Useful, thanks chaps.

In other news it looks like BMW have revised warranty pricing. They appear to have removed the zero excess product entirely now. The £100 and £250 excess products are slightly more expensive (£8 a year).

Does anyone know if a claim is per fault or per... claim?

ie, if you have a broken widget and a duff sprocket and you book it in for both, is that £100 excess or £100 x 2? ie, is each incident a separate claim?

Per claim. I've saved up stuff for them to do in one so I don't have to pay multiple excesses before and only been charged once.

That's good to know.

Guess the sales rep wasn't bluffing when she said they were revising/increasing prices when I sorted mine two weeks ago.

I was wondering the same so that's good to know. Cheers.

Will BMW provide a loan car if yours is in for warranty work?

If there's one available. If you have a sudden break down and book it in the same day it's unlikey, but if you book it in days/weeks in advance there's a good chance. They normally charge £15 one off to arrange the insurance on the car but occasionally they waive this.
