David Moyes disgracefully sacked

I quite like the sound of that personally. I see no reason why someone should be able to under perform so dramatically then get paid 5 years for the privilege.

He will have known the clause was in the contract, so it is what it is.

I'm by no means defending Moyes or suggesting he deserves the extra £18m. My main issue is, if true, Utd have wrote off their season for the sake of a bit of money.

**** knows, football's crazy enough that Taggart coming back for a couple of months could have lifted things enough where by Utd could have caught Arsenal or even fluked a CL win.

Why? If it's purely financial then there's no logic to it. As much as people ridicule the Europa League, once you factor in match day revenue and commercial bonuses (or loss of bonuses through less exposure), it's worth more than the extra £18m it would have cost to sack Moyes.

If that is the case, maybe it isn't true then? Or maybe they tried to get SAF back in and he refused.

then why allow him to buy mata in january when you already have kagawa and didn't really need mata? you needed a midfielder, no question but not an attacker.

A new manager wouldn't necessarily improve the team instantly and as said, from Feb could be as little as three more games which they could have won, being liverpool, City and everton, of which considering the confidence and quality of the team, with no chance to buy anyone is a ridiculously tall order. Even the away Stoke and Arsenal games wouldn't have been walk overs with a new manager. The damage was done and I don't think it would make any difference.

Financially you're completely discounting the stock market. Fergie only announced his retirement effectively when Moyes was assured as a replacement. This was directly because of the effect on the stock market. If they fired him in Feb and didn't announce a replacement till late April or maybe May then the unknown situation could easily rock the stock boat and cause a hit WAY more than 18million, and way more than the Europa league could bring in, way way more.

They've according to that been talking to a few managers. So it to me suggests that like when Fergie announced his retirement and they said they would announce his successor basically by the weekend, to give investors a sense of control and planning going on. Moyes replacement likely needed to be fairly well assured before they announce Moyes being fired for the same reasons.

If you fire Mourinho and wait 2 months to appoint something new, nothing happens to Chelsea. if Utd fire Moyes and wait 3 months to name the manager to come in over the summer, the stock could plummet by 100million and never come back up. There is more at stake for Utd than other clubs in a similar situation. Likewise potential managerial replacements are more likely to be okay talking about leaving at this time of the season than later. Take Klopp as an example, in Feb he was in the champs league, in the league(barely but still in it) and announcing his leaving would be bad. He's out of both, but with a single final to go, announcing he's leaving could boost the players for the final, win one last trophy together kind of thing. Klopp/Dortmund could have refused to agree to sign a precontract 2 months ago but happy to do so today.

So the decision to sack Moyes was made months ago but Utd have waited until it's mathematically impossible for the club to make the CL as a clause in his deal means that they now only have to pay him 1 year of his contract. I'm not sure I like the sound of that.

It makes perfect sense now tbh...

If it's true it adds weight to the suggestions that United will have had get out clauses in his contract about qualifying for the Champions League, as it's now mathematically impossible. That would at least explain why they've kept him on life support for so long and bemusingly backed him in recent months.

I was starting to think the directors were just nuts for backing him until now, they had half the United fans convinced he would be given at least next season and a huge transfer budget. Most rational people argued otherwise. :p

DM, Utd's share price is more likely to be effected by the performance on the pitch and subsequent financial rewards that follow rather than any uncertainty about the manager.

May i ask how it can affect there stock market delaying revealing a new manager?

If they all care about their image as a club then why the **** did they get moyes a nobody to begin with? Ryan Giggs would have been a better manager for "marketing purpose"..

is this something that one would expect to hear from the manager of possibly the biggest fc in the world? only just read it and it's in reference to the defeat at everton

"I did not enjoy the result, that's for sure," Moyes told BBC Radio 5 live.

lol

David Moyes will be sacked as Manchester United manager on Tuesday after the club’s owners, the Glazer family, decided to end the Scot’s disastrous tenure at Old Trafford.
Ryan Giggs, with Nicky Butt as his assistant, will take charge until the end of the season. Giggs has served as player-coach under Moyes while Butt has worked with the reserves.
The Glazers have handed executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward the mandate to dismiss Moyes less than 12 months into his £4million-a-year, six-year contract after United’s defeat at Everton on Sunday confirmed their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

where are you reading this or do you have access to the (i assume) telegraph article...

Uncertainty can scare investors.

How is appointing Moyes in the first place not show an even greater uncertainty?

Uncertanty for what? Getting a manager that can do the job? They certainly failed on that part so why rush again and get say martinez and again he ends up flopping?

If Klopp is available after the world cup, then why cant united wait until then to get the rigth man for the job instead of sacking Moyes and getting some random joe again?

tbh i think its is shocking and poor for from united. Feel sorry for Moyes. yes his done **** but why leak the supposed confirmation to the media probably before even Moyes knew of it himself?

do your dirty laundry indoors!

Sack him officially done and dusted then announce to the media!

Imagine if it was actually true that Moyes found out he will be sacked from the ****ing SUN newspaper?

That is just insane

because it was ferguson's recomendation and the owners showed naivety by listening to him. though i'm sure homework was done, it would've been nigh on impossible and a big disrespect to not honour ferguson's choice.

they're not replacing him until after the season. giggs and butt will take over. i feel they will announce lvg during or straight after the wc.
