David Moyes disgracefully sacked

I don't rate van Gaal.

He won the Champions League with Ajax in the 1995 and hasn't done much of note since. Short spells with Bayern and Barcelona - he won the league with each but that isn't that hard to do. Was sacked by Bayern.

I personally think Rafa would be a much better choice for Manchester United.

Clearly newcastle have outwitted man u by tying pardew down to a long contract. Maybe man u should get sir alex back for a couple of seasons of stability, sir alex goes to all the games anyway. Once pardews contract has run down a bit then man u can buy the rest out.

I'd rather have Benitez than Moyes. :p

Sounds like it'll be Van Gaal though:

  • He's got experience building teams and setting up a structure
  • Plays the right way (attacking football)
  • Has won different things in different countries
  • He won't be afraid of anyone in the dressing room
The bad point is he's rather volatile and can fall out with players, but that will make a very pleasant change from miserable, boring, negative, tactically clueless Moyes.

Van Gaal is a Dutch SAF.....brilliant and temperamental all at the same time. I would rather see Klopp or Ancellotti though, if only that they are younger.

He wouldn't be my first choice overall, but out of the managers who are definitely attainable, he's the best bet.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was appointed, but I wouldn't rule out anyone just yet...the temptation of managing one of, if not the biggest club in the world, with a significant budget and the opportunity to build your own team and legacy from the outset must have the best and brightest managers across Europe seriously thinking about their positions...including Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp who seem to have taken the time to distance themselves today. Sometimes people protest to much....

Pep is at a bigger, better run club already, and seems to be doing not too bad with them.

Not bigger, but better run, yes. He's not been there long so I can't see him leaving anyway.

Detailed interview with Van Gaal about his philosophy and tactics for anyone interested here.

Pep is at a club where the directors snipe at him and interfere in his management, the very reasons he left Barcelona. And bigger? By what definition? It certainly isn't by finances or support.

That isn't the majority opinion with the higher ups at the club or the fans.

He's doing exactly what the team did last year, except producing football the fans and higher ups at the club don't enjoy. He's taken the single most exciting team in europe and turned them into one of the most boring in a matter of months.

Honestly, Redknapp could have won the title with that team, I think almost anyone on earth could have. "do the same as you were doing last year guys", brilliant squad, brilliant tactics, brilliant coaches, brilliant everything. It takes a real **** to come in and see an exciting team and make them boring.
