David Moyes disgracefully sacked

United took Fergie's advice but Moyes didn't take Fergie's advice. He sacked all the back room staff, makes you wonder what else he did.

Honestly Moyes should have been given a season with Fergie before taking control.

Van Gaal seems the most realistic prospect - the other candidates mentioned above would want Champions League football and having recently been linked with the Spurs job, he's clearly earmarked as a manager who can break a side into the top 6

well if he was interested he wouldn't just suddenly say yes in the press would he the fans would hate him after the amount of players that have left/leaving for bayern. There might be a possibility it happening in a way that would also benefit bvb but if if he does decline both Utd and Barca can't see why he would go somewhere else until his contract has ended

But Klopp, clearly flattered by the reported interest from United, has also claimed he would not break the contract he has at Dortmund which has four years to run.

He told The Guardian: "United are a great club and I feel very familiar with their wonderful fans. But my commitment to Borussia Dortmund and the people is not breakable."

:D

My 'worry' is if it doesn't work out next year, they could be facing a long way back. I don't think anyone really expected a Liverpool-like fall, but the longer they fail to get back into the Champions League placings, the harder it will get.

My other 'worry' is, while there will clearly be money available to whoever gets the job, they need so many new faces. Vidic and Evra are off, Ferdinand will likely retire, Giggs too and van Persie's future seems uncertain. Of all of those players the only one who could bring money in would be van Persie. You have to expect Fellaini won't be wanted by the new manager, but he'll be on some tasty wages now, and it will be hard to shift him.

They need at least one more centre back, a left-back, at least one central midfielder with a lot more energy and possibly someone who will give some genuine width on the left if Mata is to stay on right, cutting inside.

I struggle to see, without saddling the club with more debt, how they can replace all the players they need, and whether the club is a big name or not, they'll not replace them all with the quality they'll want while they're not in the Champions League.

I love the way everyone is saying that United have lost a part of what made us Manchester United because we didn't give a rubbish manager 6 years to take us to mid table mediocrity and ruin a worldwide brand. You don't give a guy a 6 year contract unless you expect to keep him. Moyes just underperformed horrendously and was damaging every facet of the club. Given more time he would have just found new lows to sink to after spending a few hundred million and knocking a few hundred more off the value of the club before losing us a few more hundred with missed prize money from europe.

I wish we had sacked him a few months ago.

quite a few details coming out now how he lost the dressing room and the carrington staff hating him

It's almost a social/behavioural script! Shirley you can recognise that... :o

Always makes me laugh that people don't get that 99% of these statements are generic ones meant to not offend or close off options.

If say before Chelsea offered you a contract you are asked about another job at any other big club, what you're going to say "I hate them, they suck". No, you say something generic and bland, good club, blah blah, if you don't get another job you have the potential for that job in the future. You say they suck and you'd never work there you might miss an opportunity in the future.

99% of players/managers will not bad mouth other people that could potentially cost them in the future.

With flying / overlaping full backs ( with Rafael on one side) two issues are solved wth one signing

Mata will hopefully be right behind Rooney, either beside Kagawa or not depending on formation etc

Januzaj can always be the pace on one side IF the new manager wants to use them (either way Im not sure 4-4-2 is anything like as important as it used to be)

There are also very good players out there lile Reus ( not that I think Utd have a hope in **** of getting him) who are effective and versatile enough to play in cm and out wide.

With the right Moyes replacement Utd can easily attract 4 1st XI players and even a couple of squad ones to join a few kids comimg through from the academy over the summer.

It all depends on the timing of the announcement of who is getting the job.

Just need to show Fellaini the door now. I have never seen a more useless player put on the red shirt.

I cant see that happening this summer, unless the club gets an insane offer ( which is unlikely)

Of course it doesnt mean he will get in the named eighteen a lot either, one way or another Utd are stuck paying his wages

Best you can hope is likely a loan with whatever club got him paying a portion of his wages. I can't imagine there is any club out there that would pay his full wage, and no one is going to buy him currently I don't think. The majority of Everton fans didn't think much of him and maybe on a bigger stage he was even more shown up.

Mostly is the problem that Fellaini's wages mean someone else has to be happy paying that. Utd might go the City route of not only eating most of the transfer fee but paying the player the difference between his current contract and new contract at a club.

I can almost, almost see Fat Sam being stupid enough to buy him and pay him too much, he's almost identical in quality, style and situation as Carroll. But then currently the owners are pretty irked with lack of progress and crap football under fat sam, so would they bank roll another huge wage player of exactly the same style as Carroll, who has made exceptionally little difference to the team.
