Special Brew R.I.P.

I had one the other day actually, really nice IPA.

It's the best IPA you'll get in a supermarket, by a long way. But it's unlikely the people who buy it are going to buy 15 of them for a session. And without wanting to be inflammatory, those who do get drunk on those types of beers are probably not the type to cause grief afterwards.

When I was just a kid our standard Friday night down the river chasing girls was 3 cans of Special Brew and 10 B&H. Not touched it since I was about 18 though.

If you want good value and decent high strength lager, just go to your local Polish shop. They have a lot of pretty decent strong beers (around 7%) for a pound a can.

I really appreciate higher strength beers again after living over here.

Most beers in the offy come in girly 3% a manly 5.2% and a tramp curdingly tasty 7-8% variation.

As long as they are ice cold i love superglue thick beers.

SB is such a terrible "beer", It feels wrong even calling it a beer to be honest. Theres so many good beers though in the strength bracket, Manchester Star ale and Robinsons Old Tom for example, Star ale especially is a joy to drink and its 7.3%

@my local Tesco`s anyway :mad:
While I was shopping on Thursday I fancied a Pack to have a slurp on over the weekend
Been ages since i fancied a high strength beer and was disappointed that none seemed to be in stock

Lol.... oooooook!

Is this you by any chance OP?

If you want a 9% beer, there is always that imported Leffe. Can't comment on Special Brew as I've never tried it, but I agree with the OP that we're bending over further to the PC/lefties. Similar vein to large shops no longer showcasing their cigarettes. (non smoker here btw)

Nasty stuff, we have plenty of higher strength ales to choose from in the supermarkets now. All about 100,000,000 times better than that horrid stuff.

The lefties?

The same lefties who want prohibition on drugs lifted?

You need to adjust your radar; this is a Daily Mail policy all over.

What this guy said.

High alcohol content + enjoyable != most ales

Is that a special edition Monkey Shoulder? I love it as a whisky, and think that case looks fantastic! Would go well with my collection.

Edit: Never mind, found it, bothered to have a quick Google lol.

Just need to brew your own.

I chap I know through work has just been on holiday to Vietnam, and he said that in one part it was common for everyone to brew their own alcohol. However, it was brewed in the morning, and was ready to drink pretty quickly. It then got stronger and stronger throughout the day until it became completely undrinkable at night. They repeat the process every day. Sounds great!
