Teacher stabbed to death at Leeds high school

Well all I will say is that it's a good job there are people like Burnsy, in this country, to help protect you and your family.

Maybe just maybe before saying something about someone you could kind of have a look at their profile first and see if you are going to come across as a complete muppet.

I'm going to stick my neck out and completely agree with Burnsy with this one on the term of rehabilitation. He's 15, the story is still fresh and we have no knowledge about his background and people are calling him to be locked up for the rest of his life or worse. I always find it mad where people are able to rush a sentencing like some people in this thread.

No excuse for cold blooded murder, what if it was your mother?

At 15 he knows right from wrong, it isn't a Tom and Jerry cartoon.

Murder is murder as far as I'm concerned. Should be locked up for a long time, no excuses. If he had mental problems that should have been identified long before this happened.

How? Sometimes they just develop without outside indicators. You can't lock up mentally ill people in Prison, if he is Unwell he needs a mental health hospital.

So again locked up, he never said prison did he?

Being ill is not an excuse for rape/murder etc.

So sad that someone trying to help these kids ends up getting stabbed by one of them. What a complete scumbag... I don't care if he's from a rough estate/background the behavioral issues in some kids today is more than just the result of poverty.

My sister is a teacher in a secondary school, stories like these really scare me  At 15 I bet the scum who did this gets a lenient sentence too - imo attacking a teacher in school should be treated as seriously as attacking an on-duty policeman used to be treated.

Its the UK, most offenders get lenient sentences.... The person (Learco Chindamo) who killed the last teacher in the UK when he was a 15 yr old teenager (headmaster Philip Laurence) served 12 years... then 4 months after being released was arrested for an alleged robbery (for which he was later acquitted)... and if you look at pictures of him today he's swanning around like the typical council estate 'gangster' type... N-Dubz singer dappy even gave him a shout out in a music video...

edit just to add more to how our wonderful justice system handled the previous killer - he's not actually British but they couldn't deport him for two reasons - one he'd been resident long enough to be a permanent resident and serious grounds would be therefore required to deport him (apparently stabbing to death a teacher doesn't count) and secondly the good old daily mail favorite of 'human rights' - as he's got family over here then deporting him back to his native Italy would breach his right to a family life...

Rehabilitation or not, one must feel the brunt of what they have done, taking another life in brutal circumstances, granted rehabilitation will be there, as otherwise prisons would have been over run log ago. But I also agree people like this get off too lightly.

I doubt his future will be a glorious one now anyway with murder stamped over his profile and records

I wouldn't be. Even someone who has committed a crime such as the topic of this thread could be rehabilitated. When you have someone so young, they can still change to be someone decent.

Frankly rehabilitation shouldn't be the only aspect... (its a bit fuzzy anyway deeming someone to have been rehabilitated) there are also the deterrent and the punishment aspects. I'm sure there are some murderers who can find the errors of their ways in even shorter time periods... I don't care if someone has been rehabilitated in 5 years or 10 years etc... if you've murdered someone then you've crossed a big line and should be punished for it with a significant sentence more along the lines of 25 years+ up to complete life tariffs.

How does a 25+ year punishment help anyone? It doesn't act as a deterrent.

Do you think shorter sentences would deter a criminal or longer ?

say we give them a week in prison for rape...do you think rape would go up or down or maybe stay the same ?

Never been to London?

most massacres are don with legal guns, people selling illegal guns do not want to sell to someone like that because its almost guaranteed, prison or death in a raid.

just like that brevic (sp?) was unable to get illegal guns like he planned so instead used legal ones.

legal sellers just dont give a ****.

It's not an excuse - it's a fact of life.

The thing is just because you have murdered someone doesn't mean that you're a danger for the rest of your life. People grow up and change. I certainly wouldn't want to be judged for the rest of my life on what I did up until I was 15.

a big problem is just what level of risk is acceptable, say the kid ghets a new identity and its put back out in the population in 5 years time, do we know just what level of risk he poses to people. it will always be a gamble and that is something we take with innocent lives.

there can be a strong temptation to sacrifice the guilty life in favor of a safe bet for other innocents
