Teacher stabbed to death at Leeds high school

Who gets their reliable information from red top newspapers. They print anything they can in relation to tragic events.

OK.
The boy in custody comes from a middle-class family in the Halton area of Leeds. His mother is a human resources director and his father is a civil servant. He has a 19-year-old brother.
Neighbours said that after his parents split some time ago, the boy would rarely speak to anyone outside his immediate family.
He was predicted to gain good grades in his GCSEs and excelled particularly in art.
One neighbour said: “He was very quiet and a bit of a dweeb, but never caused any trouble. This is the last thing you would ever have expected from him.”
Police were piecing together the boy’s background, including a Facebook page with a prominent image of the grim reaper

Once again Cambofrog - its information and from a broadsheet but as its so soon after events it cant mean much. I see reasons given - separation of parents, cited as middle class (as if that matters in todays connected world), and intelligent and a high achiever (once again does that matter). Quite frankly its all playing to the stereotypes that the media uses to explain away such things. Its all a matter of wait and see.

The BBC has reported that the school "is expected to open as usual later". Is the school open today?

Given the incident, the trauma to the students/staff and the level of police involvement you would expect a 1 day closure would make sense. If the school is open then in my opinion it's a very poor decision and demonstrates a massive lack of respect for the poor lady.

I'd imagine that it's coming up to exam time has a bit to do with it

Lets treat murderers with kid glove.

Thank god none of the do-gooders here run the country, its soft enough as it is.

I don't really think any of the do-gooders here are suggesting anything that won't actually happen, lesser sentence, support and rehabilitation as he's young than someone older might receive. It's the bloodthirsty people that are more out of line with how things are, he's not getting shot in the back of the head and thrown in a ditch or spend his entire life in prison.

Yes school is open - students running the gauntlet of TV crews this morning. From the messages we got from the school last night, I think it's going to be a day about counselling etc.

They need to make sure there is some long term support for these kids. Speaking from my own experiences, it's pretty easy for kids to get past this sort of stuff, but a few years down the line it can come back to bite them in the backside.

And it also looks like he has ASD.

I think you are spot on. I would be very interested to hear if this was previously picked up, if any recommendations or learning support was in place for him or if it was ignored as it is so regularly in public education.

I certainly don't think it excuses what happened but it might go some way to explain it and possibly drive more support for teachers having to deal with children who should otherwise be statemented and receiving specialized support.

Well that's ok then. I've got peed off disorder so wait while I kill a few people.

Which is not what I said but don't let that stop you.

Neither do I but it does bring into highlight current parliamentary examination of all the CAMHS services this government has just shut.

And here it comes....the usual, never to miss an opportunity, link to the evil , heinous, video games !

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...uspect-enjoyed-ultra-violent-video-games.html

LBC were banging on about it all of this morning. One woman called up complaining about how the kid has been "brain washed playing that Grand Auto Theft"!

People have been assaulted by drunks a lot more than video game players. You don't seem them banning alcohol! I don't see the link people can make between video games and turning that into real life behaviour either.

Sadly it's an easy scapegoat for people to use.

It grinds my gears how the media keep trying to blame these kinds of incidents on games. I mean really, why try and hide the multitude of other factors that could have (probably have) caused this, and all the others? Poor parenting, education, mental illness (?), the list goes on.

Stop taking the easy option and blaming games, ffs.
