I missed a delivery earlier in the week. As I was in waiting for it I suspected the driver of not ringing the doorbell.

Today I was expecting another delivery. I got up early. Tested the door bell a few times, and all was working fine. Started breakfast and waited.

Sure enough I saw the Parcelforce van pull up. guy gets out with a pre prepared card drops in my mailbox (mailbox is on the wall outside and I'm on the 3rd floor) and drives off, all before I even get my shoes on.

There was no attempt to ring the doorbell or deliver the parcel. Oddly the time on the card is exactly the same time as my previous missed parcel even though he actually arrived later.

Anyone here work in delivery? Is this common practice?

I dont work in delivery, But I see it/ experience it from time to time. I would complain.

Yes, very common with Royal Mail (Who effectively operate ParcelForce).

Happens all the time, particularly if you order from a certain competetors site (think a large river in South America).

I have even had the practice confirmed by someone making deliveries when I confronted them about it before they could escape :D

On both occasions the card states it can be collected from my local PO which is only down the road, but they don't deliver there until late in the day.

You know what's it like when you've waited in for a tech product. you just want to play with it.

If I was really anal I'd setup a camera for evidence, but life is too short. It's easier to moan on here :p

Complain, and request compensation for the time/petrol it takes you to collect it, or for a refund on your postage.

I have this issue all the time at work, does my head in, complained once which got me nowhere.

Amazon are not direct competitors. You can say it :)

Emailed a complaint. Not sure anything will be done though.

I imagine it's much easier for them to drop off a load of parcels all in one go at the PO as it is to knock, wait for someone to answer, then signed for parcel.

Yup, PF suck balls. I'm waiting on UV strips for 3 of my vivariums which were promised to me by yesterday at the latest. I didn't know the company used PF otherwise I'd have paid the extra petrol to get to the store.

Interestingly, I have never had this issue when I get stuff delivered to my company office address. I assume it's because the company has CCTV and could clearly show on video if the Parcelforce guy hasn't bothered to turn up. Also, there's always a receptionist or someone else to answer to doorbell so the excuse that no one was in would be a non-starter.

We had Yodel do similar at my work, it was a pre-12 parcel, and was rather urgent, so we rang just after 12 to chase it and were told the driver turned up at 8.30 and no-one was in.

I found this amusing as I was in at 8am, the receptionist was in just after me, and she has a clear view of the front door from her desk.

When I mentioned this and suggested we check the CCTV to confirm, they were (surprisingly :p) very apologetic, and had someone come out with it straight away :D

Last time it happened to me I just rang them & pointed out that the time on the card is about 2 minutes before I made this call so where exactly was I ??? Whoever it was I spoke to must have rang the driver as he was back at my door 20 minutes later.

Trouble is with royal mail and pikeyforce the staff are given more work and no extra help/ overtime.

So they're basically forced to cut corners to avoid their employer ripping them off forcing unpaid work on to them and who loses out? The customer.
