Hi, going to Spain soon, and don't fancy buying a bolt on data deal or paying 40 odd pence per mb, as i can limit my internet ise to when on wifi.

Am i right in thinking i can just disable mobile data in settings to stop apps trying to access the net? And this would still allow incomming calls or text?

Should be the same on Android, I'm on WP and turning Data Usage Off but still keeping network on, I get text and calls when I was in Germany / Belgium. Wifi for data, if you can find any...

If your on 3 you don't need a 'Bolt On' and you won't pay any extra in Europe and much of the rest of the world!

I'm off to America next month and asked on their Twitter support feed, and they said it uses your UK tariff for Phone/Text/Data so long as you don't phone/text anyone within the country you are in (if you phone/text the UK it's just like being in the UK!) where as Data is the same as being in the UK...

So my 250mins/Ultd Text/All-you-can-eat data will still cost me £12.90/month no extras :)

Otherwise just turn off 'Allow Data while Roaming' :)

Spain wasn't included though last time i checked, maybe they couldn't stike a deal with local providers

Hmmmm... Looking on their site, it's a little Confudging!... but I think it's included now!.. :)

I think the prices there are for phoning people and receiving calls/texts from within Spain

Spain IS NOT included in their "Feel at Home" package!

The list is currently - USA, Italy, the Republic of Ireland, Austria, Australia, Sweden, Denmark, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau

Do you need to notify Three that you're going to the U.S. (maybe to activate something in your account) ?
And so they don't think the phone has been stolen etc?

Oh, glad to have stumbled on Feel at Home as I am going to Italy for a few days later this month.

Anyone know if you have to use certain specific local networks to benefit from FaH? (Edit - just emailed to find out)

Yeah!, I logged into the 'My Three' thinngy on my browser and followed the steps, I was unsure if it had done it, so I asked the nice people on the @ThreeUKSupport on Twitter and they confirmed it was up and running and should work when I boot up my phone after getting off the plane! :)

Then go to: "Internet Settings" in the International Setting section and set it to what ever you want from the 3 options! :)

Looks like "3 Italy" will give you everything (Voice, Video, Text, MMS, Data and My3), and "Wind" will give you everything bar 'Video'

3 also do the Euro Internet Pass....£5/day IIRC, which gives unlimited data for the day

Yeh that's not a price I'm prepared to pay, basically I can use my relatives wifi when I need to, send/receive possible urgent/emergency calls/texts (don't care about the cost for that as there will be none, or maybe one or two as I have access to landlines etc).

Basically I just need to stop the phone using data/internet on the sly and running a bill up, like a bunch of apps deciding they need to update or something (but I don't want to mess about configuring app permissions individually, only to have to reconfigure it all on return).

Take the Tick out of the "Data Roaming" Box

Wifi Data will work no matter what that is set to!!

Thanks!

Also received a call back from Three (speedy!) who confirmed that you don't have to pick any particular network to get FaH.

:D

Think it's automatic! The moment you switch you phone back on (if you've been a good by and turned it off on the plane!!)
