*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Demon's Souls successor is pretty likely.

From Software, and the guy behind Demon's Souls have been working on a game for a good few years now. That game, is rumoured to be the leaked pictures from 'Project Beast'.

Sony declined to publish Demon's Souls at the time, although they own the rights to the franchise. That's why Dark Souls came out as a 'seperate' series as they couldn't continue on from Demon's Souls.

It's very possible that Sony seen the success of it, realised their mistake (they came out with a statement saying it was one of the worst decisions they had made to ignore it) and then told them to work on a sequel.

From Softwares dev team increased considerbly, which could have been enough to cope with 2 games at once - and Sony would want Demon's Souls 2 to be developed as a system seller for PS4. Most people agree it's not likely to hit Xbox and would be a Sony exclusive given that they own the franchise themselves.

All just speculation - but seems rather likely to me. Screenshots certainly look like a Souls game - but it could just be a spiritual successor again...still good though but I'd prefer a sequel to Demon's.
Screeshots show what looks to be a soul item on a corpse, and a fog gate so i'm buying into the hype on this one for a change - I never do but hell, this would be my most anticipated game if confirmed so why not

I hope you're right, man. I don't care if its a sequel or a new franchise - if it has the atmosphere and plays like Demon's/Dark Souls it's all good and the best PS4 news to date :)

So the light bar in the ds4 was introduced for project morpheus? Hmm if that is true then Sony's vision of a gamers machine is also a pure gaming machine with vr that isn't tacked on after release...

Makes you wonder just how close Sony where to announcing ps4 with vr at last years e3 but decided to leave vr out and leave ms to fumble about with its DRM and Kinect whereas Sony just went for core gamers and all along had vr to capture other players further down the line..

The ps4 is without doubt a fine games console but the camera and light bar have been mostly unused by myself.. so if vr is the reason for their design then wow. Sony had more then a vision of a powerful games console.

I'm actually wondering if some of the sync issues are down to not enough space on the cloud storage.

Mines had uploaded 120MB just for NBK 2k14, a game i have played a grand total of 5 minutes of. Trial fusion is a big size too. Add that to all the PS3 and vita game saves, i am thinking the 1GB might not be cutting it.

Seems to me the light bar was included so they had the option to do advanced tracking and the augmented reality stuff, and as a consequence of having it decided to use it as the power and controller indicator too. But that went out the window when they decided to un-bundle the camera so it's virtually unused.

If they're saying the VR stuff needs the light bar that's surely implying that you also need the camera in addition to the headset. That's going to be a very expensive add-on.

Could be but pretty sure it's 1GB per system. If you press X on the save upload error does it give you what the error is?

So how would you clear out the old PS3 saves if you no longer have a PS3?

You'd be right, you do need the camera, and all new tech is expensive. and this is certainly new tech.

I'd agreed, they unbundled the camera to make the console cheaper at launch, that worked. leaving the camera with nothing to do other then playroom. for now.

I think Sony have played their cards correctly, released the console as cheap as possible, but overall you add the extras on as you please. don't want vr or camera etc then don't buy them. smart moves by Sony. shrewd but smart.

I'm quite interested in vr myself. it's something I've never seen done before. you can say the same about motion controls, but vr just has that geek wow thingy for me, more so then wavy motion control or voice command ...

Couple of questions.

How does the automatic recorded gameplay work? Can I not view it once I exit the game?

Can I disable the pop up that says something like "Stopped recording because.. cutscene, or whatever" then after the scene it "Recording begun after cutscene"

The issue with making it an add on of course being you end up with very little support... there is nothing for the camera outside of playroom and streaming?

I just think putting the VR behind two expensive addons is really going to limit its appeal and support, as technically impressive as it may be.

Hmmm PS3 and PS Move spring to mind.
Xbox 360 Arcade without HDD,
Rob the Robot for Nintendo, light guns etc.

Add on peripherals, especially on game consoles often get overlook by developers, as you can't guarantee who has one and who doesn't. You simply can't justify the additional development cost for just that 5% of the user base.

You say it like VR itself isnt just a (very) expensive addon - needing to purchase the camera isnt going to make a slightest bit of difference on VR uptake...

Incidentally/annoyingly the camera actually seems to be selling purely based on a feature that isnt even marketed as one (I think the last figures we have are 900k sold while demand still hasnt been abated)...

ps3ud0

I hope so too - it would be amazing. I don't usually buy into rumours or speculation but these ones fit with what I already suspected myself and they actually seem like a real possibility.

End of the day, they are working on something, and that something does LOOK like a Souls game aesthetically so I can't imagine what else it would be. It would be pretty silly for them to release a new IP that looked so much like a Souls game.

To me, it's all about whether it's Demon's Souls 2, or just a spiritual successor to the franchise. I'm fine with either, but would prefer Demon's Souls 2 full on sequal.

Hopefully something is confirmed at E3 anyway.

Still a serious lack of decent games on the PS4 then...

not really tbh, I bought Tomb Raider over a month ago and still not had a chance to start it yet because of all the other games I have been playing on my PS4.

those that are complaining about a lack of games really need to start picking some up and playing them.

how many games have you tried (bought and then sold on) ;)
