Anyone getting quickly bored of the 290?

The 290X is within 5-10% of a 780 Ti in most games, and in some the 290X even wins.
If the 290X can't handle it then neither can the 780 Ti.

I sadly don't believe this in respect of stable and non stable FPS. My friend runs a 780ti and I run a 290x and I can tell you he gets a stable FPS where is AMD cards love to jump the gun in terms of FPS.

This guy :P

The AMD drivers are awful, rarely updated and just silly. I love nvidias drivers and how often they are updated. Honestly, These cards are not worth the money whatso ever.

I've ran benchmarks like heaven and such and got good results BUT THESE ARE BENCHMARKS! Not games, 1 game of which supports mantle and even then its buggy/silly at the moment.

Lol yeah what the hell ever. Not a single issue with any drivers in the years I have been using amd.

There's a lot of AMD fans in this forum, I've seen like two nvidia people post in here so far :P

It's interesting to see peoples reactions on a card based around the concept of Mantle, Being there's a few games set in the future to use this software but for a gamer that has around 150 games in steam, Utterly useless.

I mean, The artifact issue is a driver thing, I've had it since day one and have they fixed it yet? Heh, Not a chance. Everytime I see it I feel my graphics overclocked but its still at stock everything and even in the benchmark I sent you can see it can do a avg of 70fps on 1440p but with lows of 22fps.

I honestly am nearing the point of selling both, Buying a 780TI and with the rest of the money upgrading other things :P I'll be quite happy getting back onto stable nvidia drivers!

Believing it doesn't make it true, but go ahead and believe whatever you want.
I've had two 780 Ti's and a 290p OC'd and I cannot tell the difference in their performance in games. In 3DMark the 780Ti was ~8% faster at max OC.

Sounds like a stability issue with your computer or a possible PEBKAC issue to be honest.

Have you tried running your cpu/memory at stock?

Post some 290X crossfire benchmarks so we can compare and see what performance you're getting. Use a game with an ingame benchmark tool, such as Dirt Showdown, Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider, Firestrike, etc and post your results here.

Do you want help or is this just a troll thread?

Got a screenshot of these artifacts?

Please sell the 290's and get a 780TI. I think it will be in your best interests.

Clearly a classical case of PEBKAC but i think we should all just encourage him to sell the 290's and get a 780TI. I don't think he really wants help judging from his posting style.

Only get this FPS when using mantle, But mantle has huge CPU problems and massive frame drops. Unplayable and so reflecting DX11 to what I get. Around 60fps and drops to 40 fps when stuff gets busy.

I don't use mantle (I've read about it but haven't investigated it further as I've not found the need to).

Just used the in-game FPS monitor again and in a Little Bird heli it was mid 70s, on foot it was 109.

Is it even possible to take a screenshot of these artifacts? If so I'll see if I can get a good pic and post back. Am running 14.3 drivers because someone here suggested using these drivers to fox BF4 mantle, However I still have the CPU problem and I may roll back to 14.4.

But sadly AMD has left a bad taste in my month and it's really annoying having used AMD for the past 8 years.

Working great for me mantle always has. And yeah you correct for a api that as only just released you expect the support to take time lol ask the question again in year or two and then see how many mantle games there is.

BF4 full ultra fps don't drop below 100fps

How is that even possible? I've heard many people calling out AMD for there bad driver support, It's a google search away!

And same could be said for anything on this planet lol a Google away lol

I don't think anyone will deny (even matt) that AMD drivers were a bit of a state from around the HD5000/6000 days, especially on multicard setups.

In fairness to them thought they acknowledge it was a bit of a mess and that they had 2 drivers teams independently, one running betas the other WHQL, so the latest WHQL wouldn't have the fixes from the latest beta etc... it was a mess. But they took it on board, scrapped this way of operating and since things have been much much better.

Christ it even took them 3-4 months to get BF3 and skyrim CF drivers out due to the above :p

Unfortunately this stigma seems to have stuck to them to this day, it will shift eventually but people need to stop being so quick in pointing to drivers at every single issue.

Give the OP a break, he probably didn't know that was wasn't allowed to make a negative post about AMD.
Sorry OP, not the way it works on the forums, you're either pro-AMD or you get lynched and accused of trolling...

I've used Nvidia cards for the last couple of generations and recently moved to AMD partly due to price, partly due to everyone here singing their praises so much and part out of curiosity. While I'd say my performance is probably 5-10% less than I would expect for 290CF I can't really say I've had a problem with the drivers. A couple of install issues with the beta drivers and certificates, but other than that nothing worth mentioning. I do prefer Nvidia's control panel, but that's probably due to familiarity.
Both companies have periods of good and bad drivers, I haven't noticed one being worse than the other.

Even with a Ti you'll get lows of low twenties on 1440, the highs and average will also be much lower.

Almost my entire time PC gaming, I've had a 4850CF, 4890, GTX 580, GTX 670, 7990, 7950, 7850, 290 - I've never had problem with either side, I can't help but think *sometimes* it's down to the user/ installation of the drivers (Borked rubbish on their PC etc) rather than the drivers themselves.

Never used amd at this point. Had nvidia gpu on and off pc gaming. Played mostly console.

Three most common responses fanboys use to deflect any criticism of AMD based cards:

1> It's your PSU.
2> PEBKAC
3> I've never had a single issue therefore you are wrong.

:p

You really need to have experience of using both cards to get a proper picture as fanboys will lead you down the garden path.
