So I thought I'd make a last ditch effort in keeping these 290x. All I want from you guys is help in fixing these spikes!

Running stock 290X, Stock voltage, Stock CPU settings, Stock ram settings.

Things tried : Different verisons of drivers, 13.2, 14.4, 14.3, All the same problems.

These spikes happen a lot, worse in window and can get bad in fullscreen, They drop FPS down lower to 20FPS and spike up to 100 fps then down to 50 fps. The FPS is all over the place it's like watching a slideshow.

If anyone can help me with this problem I may end up keeping these cards. If not, Nvidia I go!

What makes you think the gfx cards ar causing your CPU to spike?

Have you tried overclocking the CPU, it will be a bottleneck for those cards so running it at stock isn't helping.

Tbh im convinced it's an issue with the bf4 servers. I get the same on a gtx 780. Ive ran the game in x86 mode, ive tried low settings, reinstalled bf4, numerous driver revisions, unparked cpu cores, tried with hyperthreading on and off. None of theese have made a worthwhile difference. Also id resize your pics or place them in spoiler tags due to the image size.:)

Its a game issue. BF4 is a mess at the moment. I recommend trying DirectX mode from the video options. The game needs a patch badly.

Is it fine in Thief using Mantle?

Also what about other demanding games like Crysis 3? Sorry, I cba reading your other posts. Sorry if this has been discussed.

I'll do some testing on my 290s tonight for you.

Crysis 3 goes from 30fps on one card to 60fps but it can drop to 40fps on both cards.

Dont have theif

If it were me I'd do the following:

Fresh install do a full wipe and clean if you can.

Install Windows and the core drivers (IF your system can run without them don't install them) Make a back up for easy reload.

Run bf4 do some tests. Then install mantle and repeat.

That's the only way to be sure there isn't a clash in the registry or in some random files.

Also what happens with just one card?

I mainly ask as I have no problems at all with BF4 Windows 8.1 pro ona 3570k @ 4.4 wiht memory clocked to about 1866Mhz and a GTX 780ti and previously had a 680 with no problems. Except the odd server dropout

Also may be the spike could be HDD related as well?

OP what HDD/SSD are you using?

Also I think it is possible that it is some issue with Windows itself, and require fresh install.

Defo game issue - no point judging your cards performance using that game

Listen to the people that know what they're talking about.

I don't agree bf4 is a mess now I run bf4 at a steady 90 frames without overlooking my gtx780 and running my i5-4670 at stock speed

And ive got multiple Nvidia friends with issues. Its not a gpu or driver issue, its a game issue but clearly not everyone is affected. Just look at Battlelog for all the proof you need.

I run it from an ssd on a pretty recent fresh install of win 7 64 and it's pretty much the same. Reputedly its a bit smoother on win 8/8.1 but even then im reading of users who have the same issue.
