Deep geothermal is the only renewable that is reliable enough to make a substantial impact on our energy portfolio. Wind, solar and tidal are not going to get us anywhere.

We should build nuclear, extract shale and make serious investments in geothermal energy production.

I would counter that we should go wind and maintain our current coal/gas/nuke for the next 20-30 years then switch to Thorium as India will have it perfected by then.

Absolutely baffled anyone would still vote for the Tories, they ****ed us once and they've ****ed us again.

I'd vote Green if I wanted to vote for the best party, they strike me as the least corrupt, probably still corrupt but maybe for better reasons.

Unfortunately I'm not deluded enough to think they'd win, I vote Labour.
Not because I think they're good I think they're corrupt scum who want to be shot.

But because the Tories are worse, Tories are the enemy. And the Liberal Democrats by working with the enemy are totally ****ing dead to me. I therefore vote for the least grueling option and choke it down every day for the next 5 years while they systematically **** this country up a bit more for personal gain.

Wouldn't touch UKIP or BNP with a barge pole, bunch of racist *******s.

Did i just wake up in opposite world?

You do realise that the EU vote is PR? The greens can (and will) win seats - don't vote tactically!

Or a bunch of people who are sick of the current mainstream and see no option but to protest or vote for someone else. .

Nail on the head there. Labours "borrow until we go bust" didn't work and the Tories "selling everything of value to their city mates" doesn't work either. People are willing to give others a chance.

Flame away but I will not be voting. Not even a protest vote! That is like saying oh well, might as well vote for the Devil and then hoping he wont welch on the contract lol

History tells us one thing! Demoralise people enough and they will protest. Their voice can make things change. Allow the wrong people to gain power and things can go pear shaped quickly.

I can only imagine what would come if Ukip were elevated to high positions!
I can see something is happening, Farage can play a good game on TV which is scary enough as it is! Imho they are racist people in sheep's clothing.

Lol at the "liblabcon lot don't work so we will vote any old bunch of clowns in" crew. Absolute fail.

Quite. Take Farage away too, what do you have? It's all invested in Farage and nobody else.

Just a question, have you done any research comparing the comparative costs of renewable energy per MWH vs building new nuclear stations?.

If you take into account expected increases in efficiency ratings there has already been huge leaps & bounds of improvements. I completely agree we should aspire to energy independence (to as much of a degree as possible) - but this would be best achieved by using a combination of various sources, with renewal being an ever increasing aspect as it matures.

The most costly unit of electricity is the one that isn't available when you absolutely have to have it!

Britain's coldest weather (When electrical demand will be at its highest) tends to coincide with times when there is neither sun nor wind available!

We Need to have sufficient conventional capacity to meet this demand. Make no mistake, Extended power cuts during an extreme cold winter (Like, say the one we had in 1963) would result in people dying in quite large numbers! Domestic residences are far more reliant on electricity for heating than they were 50 years ago and the consequences of extended power cuts due to inadequate capacity would be far more severe!

Given that we need the conventional power anyway it makes sense to build that capacity first. By all means then build the renewables (Every KWhr generated by renewables is a KWhrs worth of Gas/Coal/Uranium saved after all) but really, Unless one has access to substantial amounts of Hydro or geothermal energy, renewables should be regarded as a fuel saving exercise rather than a source of primary energy!

(IMHO ;) :D )

Please tell me how ITER doesn't count? It is the concept for the commercial design built out of the research done at JET in Oxford. They will be getting straight to work building the first commercial reactor afterwards.

You do know how long ITER has been going on for don't you!

It is a stalling exercise intended to satisfy the politicians desire to give the impression that they all want it to happen and are working hard towards making it so when in fact none of them want it!

(Practical commercial fusion would have a similar effect on global geo-politics as the discovery of practical ZPE! Any country with a coastline would have access to energy limited only by the ability to construct the power stations! there are plenty of people out there who really dont want that to happen!)

By contrast, the Neutron was discovered in 1932, Uranium fission in 1938/39 and a fully deployable Nuclear Bomb used in combat in 1945! All done at a time when bleeding edge consumer technology was a car radio!

The Greens, like UKIP, have some crazy policies when you actually read their manifesto.

* Stop/reverse all airport expansions and ban planes flying at night and well as banning all short-haul flights within the UK

* Reduce speed limits to 20 mph on all but main roads/A Roads and Motorways.

* Reduce motorway speed limit to 55 mph, reduce A Road speed limit to 40 mph.

* Support in principle a new north–south high-speed line, which would reduce the number of short-haul flights within the UK (This isn't crazy but given they've since opposed HS2 it just goes to show they can be Nick Cleggs too).

* Unlimited immigration even if it harms the economy.

* Increase over seas aid by 40%

I'm not voting again. Haven't voted since my first vote since no person or party in politics are trustworthy or really inspire me that they will bring any sort of benefit.

If we leave the EU does that stop all the foreigners coming or is there still loopholes that will allow 'free' travel?

Not that I'm against them coming... ahem.

Majority of immigrants are not from the EU.

I will be voting Lib Dems simply because they're the ones that seem to stress the importance of being part of the EU. Conservatives seriously need to take the referendum off the cards for me to consider voting for them again, at this rate I'll be voting for Labour at the next GE.

..and I didn't even cover their social welfare and taxation policies which basically amount to 'poor people should get everything for free and rich people should have to give 90% of their wealth to the government'.

I'm no free-market capitalist and think there is a problem with wealth distribution at the moment but their polices are just extreme.

The irony is they support the free movement of people whilst needing to physically force anyone on over £100k a year to stay in the country, despite taking the vast majority of their earnings, to make their sums add up.

Not sure what else to say, other than:  by Green party, I assume they mean they have been smoking green stuff a bit too much

rofl at people voting green, these policies are far more extreme than any ukip policies and would damage the country so much.

These are a joke.
