You know I'm using those numbers, is that Wednesdays or Saturdays?

:D

Damn, I'm now going to have to do them both days myself now too :D

How do you know it had trouble...wheres the numbers...cause the only ones released only caught a fraction of the time it was on sale for, also the copies sold was heavily skewed as well.

If it wasn't in trouble with pre-orders they wouldn't have done a flip on their strategy. If it wasn't in trouble you wouldn't have seen the big game supposed system seller being bundled for £350 or less. If it wasn't in trouble they wouldn't be dropping kinect.

Personally I think if they do rrp for £350 kinectless then they have ****ed up again, because that's not enough after a titanfall bundle for that amount. They will be forced again to drop the price and it becomes to look like a firesale. They should go £299-£325 with no kinect.

How long did the 360 last at £279 for the premium?

It is rather hilarious, make deals so the Xbox sells at all, then release a new version without Kinect for higher than the lowest prices the Kinect + game versions have recently sold at.... MS really can be completely retarded.

They got some okay sales, more to do with the Titanfall bundle itself than the price cut, but both together certain got more sales. Console sales have gone up on every console, regardless of popularity, when a big exclusive launches.

But to come out and release a console with less features, at the same/slightly higher price than the best recent deals is utterly absurd. Best deals recently -£50 and you had your Kinectless version price.

In terms of XO versus PS4 sales. the PS4 might be on sale in more countries but ultimately PS4 is selling what they can produce and MS can't. PS4 is beating Xbox sales in the main regions the XO is available in. most of the different regions are very small markets. Ps4 is winning in America afaik which is hugely surprising, it's easily winning in europe and easily winning worldwide.

Now if XO was smashing the PS4 or even matching it in the biggest regions(uk/us/japan), but the entire difference for PS4 was in random smaller countries it would be understandable, but that isn't the situation. The PS4 is outselling the XO everywhere, significantly in most places and the gap keeps growing.

When you factor in that say 2million people were ready to buy and many/most pre-ordered for the first few weeks then it was only in the next month or two we realised the "but esram will save it" wasn't going to pan out and the significant difference in resolution/frame rate became apparently. When you effectively look at both consoles sales since the first month of sales, it looks much worse for MS.

If both sell around 2mil in the first 2-4 weeks, and since then PS4 has sold 5.5mil and XO has sold 2-2.5mil, that is a huge difference.

Its not in trouble though, but perhaps they have another strategy now.

Lets be clear, the only company in serious trouble right mow is Sony.

apparently august 2007 after a nov/dec 2005 release??????

Well I think kinect is fantastic, it's what makes the xbox one a joy to use. Hopefully ms will continue to improve its use in the OS. If it came to a choice between buying a kinect equipped XO and a slightly cheaper one without, then I'd go for the kinect version every time.

im not disputing the ps4 is outselling the xone however the fact that its available in 50+ more countries is obv helping sony win this gen so far. and if microsoft couldnt make up a 2m sales deficit in over 50 countries then i guess they really would be selling. however i dont think it really matters much to the consumer only ones affected are the big 2 as majority of games will be released on both consoles anyway

So it seems this decision has annoyed most people who alredy own an XB1 but has potentially now made a significant amount of people jump on board. Even though its pretty bad that they have essentially turned away from the whole original idea for the console this is probably the best decision for them to get some more sales. The only problem is now that the whole console is essentially underpowered due to the design decisions made because of Kinect, now they have lost this key feature and have a less powerful console they REALLY need to pump out a good library of games to keep up with Sony.

Why on earth people keep on saying the Xbox One is underpowered when its not??!?!?!

Not as if the Kinect bottle-necked the whole Xbox One performance. The Kinect has its own CPU separate from the Xbox One unlike the first Kinect. So whether the Kinect is included or not, console performance would be the same.

Exactly, that's a console with good games from day one with a good stream on games coming not far from launch. Despite the tragic early reliability the 360 is the best console I have ever owned and I think the problem is there isn't enough reasons for most of the general public to put it away and start on their new system. The only reason the 360 didn't die a death despite almost crippling levels of RROD is because people just wanted to play the games so they suffered that ****. Now you have Titan fall and games that don't look as good compared to the competition.

I hope they can bounce back.

because weirdos were scared of change
I personally think the ones who sit in a room on their own talking to a games console and waving their arms around and swiping mid air, are the weirdos...

On a serious note, it's not about change, it's about the fact that we don't bloody need to be doing the above nonsense when we can just pick up a physical controller. Just because technology moves on doesn't mean we need to think of, and put into practice new ways of doing the most basic tasks.

tbh i dont think we will tell for a while yet if there will be any major dif between current gen games and next gen games. and tbh i have ghosts and bf4 for my xo and my son has both for his ps4 and i really cant tell the dif between the 2 although that may change when newer games get released

If say MS have made 6 million consoles, these were to be sold into 50 countries. MS has to have a decent ish stock in all these places, but most would be for the US/UK. The other 48 countries didn't exactly jump on the 360 why would MS waste resources and potential sales in the 2 places it knows it could sell in?
This move was either 6 months too late, should offered both SKUs at launch, or be at a time when they can reduce the costs further to undercut the PS4 with a kinect-less SKU and have the kinect version at parity. Still for those no wanting kinect but wanting an XB1 its the SKU they have been waiting for.

This pretty much assumes that Sony can make significantly more consoles than they've sold.

Being available everywhere doesn't mean they are selling every console they could be. If Sony and MS can produce 7million consoles between launch and now, and Sony sells them all and MS can't, that is really the key situation.

There is talk of MS talking up numbers sold to retailers because there are loads on shelves, talk about production plants being scaled down, etc. Sony could maybe only have made 7.5mil consoles to date and would have sold 7.5mil if they were available only in Japan, US, Uk or if they are available worldwide but still the same 7.5million.

This is the issue, production generally ramps up. Nintendo were making massively more Wii's in say the 3rd year than the 1st year, same for 360/ps3, and it will be the same for PS4 and would have been for XO, if it was selling better.

The reality is we don't know precisely how many consoles Sony have made/can make by now. That they are talking up sold to customer numbers and retailers aren't dropping prices massively, not offering great bundles all the time, haven't dropped the cost effectively £130 since launch(taken as a launch price Xbox + titanfall would be £480, but sold for £350).

The general situation around the world appears to be Sony selling everything they can make, thus their sales are limited by production, not demand, and number of countries it's sold in becomes irrelevant. The converse is true for MS, talking up sold to retailer numbers, consoles in stock everywhere in large numbers, retailers tanking prices to get units sold. In this situation MS launching properly in more countries makes perfect sense, they would bump sales almost certainly... however it might not be significant and might look bad(if they lose in another 30+ markets).

It's not due to Kinect but all you have to do is look at the games released on both platforms so far to see the big difference in PS4 games with 1080p, 60fps or both.

Will the XB1's esRAM ever be utilised properly and be enough to run games the same as the PS4..time will tell.

i read an interesting article about that earlier today and i think it was crytek that have almost got the hang of it now, dont know the technicalities or how to even explain it but apparently MS have a new dev kit which helps devs make use of the esram properly. whether its enough to run games at 1080p/60fps is another thing although on paper it certainly can and think MS have put all there eggs in the esram basket so one can only assume it IS possible
