Watch Dogs

Compared to 1080P yes.

Maybe you should download one of those test videos and see for yourself, plenty of people on here as well as AVforums can tell the difference too.

It's all to do with how it's been recorded as well as the cameras used, etc. They are a lot better.

These tech demos for 4K blow all 1080P sources out the water.

Don't believe me try it for yourself, but it's like 4GB for a 1-3 minute file

Yep, it's actually really surprising how large a difference in clarity there is even on a 1080p screen.

The differences were often discussed briefly back on the PS3 vs 360 but I don't think most people cared to the degree that they seem to now. Have to find something to be unhappy about I suppose.

Analysis by tech sites has increased a lot as well, and publishers seem to be announcing resolutions as (for some reason) people are more interested in those details this gen.

I recall last gen we were told every game on 360 would be 720p minimum. It was like 6 months before the tech sites even figured out launch titles were sub 720p and used upscaling. Maybe it is "easier" for sites to analyse them now, and publishers are upfront to avoid being "outed" after the release by tech sites.

Certainly it came up a lot more towards the end of the 360/PS3 gen, but I think it might be partly due to more people having 1080p and 720p displays and maybe even understanding what that means a bit better?

There are of course a few solutions to this problem.

  • Sit further away from the TV
  • Squint a little when playing
  • Have a few beers before you start

It just goes to show that you don't need a display with a higher res to appreciate stuff which is natively higher.

I mean 4K looks absolutely stunning on my 1080P, I don't think I'll need to upgrade my TV for a long time because I can see the benefits of 4K clearly on it.

I paid £799 for my 50" GT50. I want a similar bargain when I finally go UHD whether that be 4K or 8K, I would want a 60" OLED UHD screen for under £1K.

The skin on her looks noticeably better, which is good right. :)

I meant in comparison to watching a Blu Ray on the same screen.

Does the youtube video look better?

When I originally did the test I had the file downloaded onto my PC through torrenting. So I was seeing an even higher quality version of that clip.

Yes. Stupid Youtube...

I can only get 1080P on mine too, not using my TV screen but my NEC 20WGX2 pro.

I used to watch comparison videos for ps3/360, more out of curiosity than anything else. It was almost always down t slight differences in colour and contrast. Side by side you can see differences, but thats not what I do at home, I just sit back and play.

I have never played a game on my 360 and thought thought "this would be soooo much better on ps3". And I doubt I ever will with the XB1 and PS4.

Ok well.

I suppose another test would be to torrent a 1080P file and a 4K file and then compare them, even though the images may be completely different I would hope you could tell the difference in overall clarity of the image being displayed on screen.

This is why res is important, especially to people with an eye for quality.

Honestly..if you are having to masturbate yourself that hard over res and keep saying how good your panel is, you have bought the wrong game.

Not had an issue so far with any game graphics wise on PS4 tbh. But I can certainly appreciate the difference between the PS4 version and other inferior versions I have played on the PS3.

Some people don't care and some do. I do care about quality though so everything that contributes to the quality of a game is therefore important; gameplay, mechanics, engine, resolution, fps, story, etc, etc.

I think the real problem with games is not the screen res or fps, if that is so important to you then either buy a machine capable if higher res such as a high spec pc or get the version that offers the highest res on consoles this being the ps4, but I feel screen tear is the biggest jarring factor.

I've banged on about screen tearing before, but tearing is simply one of the most immersion breaking issues with games as far as I'm concerned.

30, 60 720, 900, 1080, 4 k sure you can side by side tell the difference, but no side by side is needed to notice screen tear.. I would hate seeing this in games, and had a horrible time on the ps3 with games that tore. the ps4 has been a haven for me and screen tear free games. so if watch dogs reviews well and doesn't tear on ps4 then 30 fps 900 p would be fine for me in honestly my opinion.

if it tears then pc for me if the game reviews well.

Agreed, it really killed the immersion in some PS3 games. I seem to recall some titles "cheated" to avoid the tearing, like adding blurring when you change cameras fast etc.

Not noticed any tearing on the PS4, yet. Watchdogs "looks" like the kind of game that tore a lot (for whatever reason) on PS3. Open world games where you can change cameras freely mainly in my experience.

I'll buy WatchDogs anyway. Closest, imo, to the GTA5 that a lot of people are clamouring for on XB1/PS4.

Agree about screen tearing, was really annoyed when I bought FarCry2 for PS3, it was so bad I didn't play past the opening 10 minutes.
