Yea, I'm really enjoying it actually. The interior is such a nice place to be, it's very comfortable and the autobox is just fantastic. I even like most of the things about the engine - it doesn't sound like a glorious petrol six but it doesn't sound like a tedious diesel four either, it's quite pleasant. Infact the only thing I don't like it the faint vibrations you feel through the cabin when stationary. It amazes me that people driving diesels pretend they don't do this, they do and it's irritating.

But that's pretty much my only area of complaint, really. It's just so nice to waft about it. Yet you can put your foot down and it moves, too. Handles nicely, as well.

Wish I knew what to do about wheels/tyres though. I don't like the wheels it has but they are brand new - along with 4 brand new Goodyear Excellence RFT's. Which don't ride half as badly as I suspected they would but are ridiculously noisy. I want a decent set of wheels with 4 Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 non-RFT's on it but it I've not decided how to get it to happen yet.

Oh, I also got BMW Online working...

Looking forward to tackling jobs on the E39 myself now it doesn't matter how long it takes me and I don't need the car for transport. First stop leaky rocker cover gasket :D

It's not a difficult job to do so shouldn't be expensive for them to do. Taking your time a couple of hours will be plenty.

The rocker/ spark well gaskets are something like £50, plus I replaced some of the rocker bolt O rings too which were about another tenner or so from memory and I also changed the oil cap gasket, but can't remember whether that came with the set (or £50 was the price including it all) or I bought it separately.

Quite a difficult choice but I've replaced the MV4 alloys with MV3's and regretting it. Knowing they suffer from cracking problems doesn't sit well with me at all hence the decision I suppose, are there any OEM alternatives worth considering which look well, better; yet offer decent ride comfort and aren't prone to cracks etc

If you got uprated mv3's you should be ok, afaik mine are still ok, but I've no idea if they were the uprated ones or have been replaced at any time, nothing was mentioned when I got some recent tyres put on

Stop thinking about it and it will stop bothering you, like most things once your used to it you don't notice it.

Any particular indication setting out which is which? I wasn't aware of there being updated ones.

I believe you would need to take the tyres off to find out (other than date stamps on the inside of the spokes but I couldn't say what) there are some extra grooves or ridges on the wheel itself to combat the cracking

Car looks wonderful Fox, love the colour and the wheels. The only reason I could never have a diesel is the potential long-term reliability issues...dpf, injectors, pumps...

How does this look for £4,300? I haven't seen many clubsports around on the road or online but are how do they differ from 330ci's except for the bodykit?

It might be OK, you'd need to go look really. Had a few owners which I could get over quite easily but no real mention of what kind of history its got, details to show whether it really is complete or information on work its had done, all of which I'd want to find out before viewing.

I also hate the wheels and they look like they've got some fairly cheap tyres on which ( for me) doesn't give the impression of a caring owner.

Still, for £4k or under it could be a decent enough buy of the bodywork is rust free

Fox, what real-world driving economy are you seeing from the 530d?

Not really had it long enough for a proper average but it got 47mpg on the Motorway journey back and seems to do 20-24mpg on cold short trips and 28-30mpg around town if the engine is warm.

It's basically very thirsty when cold and very efficient when warm it seems.

The intention is to retain BMW warranty on the car for those very reasons.

Fox has only had his a couple days, so I'm sure he will need a bit more time to get an actual average together.

I have had mine since November though, but bearing in min it was brand new then, so needed broken in too...

You should be able to click on that to take you to my cars profile, and it will give you more detail. Miles per tank, pence per mile, details on every fuel up etc...

Current figures are based on 7200 miles though. Missed 2 tanks. Lots of motorway driving in there. And a fair amount of commuting traffic and A/B road driving, and town driving. So a pretty good overall mix. That said, I am probably not the slowest driver out there either.
