Does anyone know a way to remove the dye stains from a cpu block??

As you can see from the photo my EK cpu block as become dyed from their coolant, is there any way I can clean this? I thought possibly alcohol cleaning solution. Though I'm not sure if this would damage the plexi or the nickle

Alcohol on Nickel plate is fine, just don't use alcohol on plexi.

For the stain, I would try removing it with water, then alcohol.

Non-abrasive metal polish also work, like autosol works pretty well on my second hand 570 block :P

I know this may sound like a completely stupid question but would I be able to take the block apart with out causing permanent damage to the seal? As thats the only way I could imagine you would be able to use cleaning alcohol without getting on the plexi.

You won't damage the seal.

The block is sealed by screwing the plexi onto the Copper/nickel base, sandwiching an O-ring.

The only way to damage the seal are:
1. Not tightening the screw enough
2. Not seating the O-ring in the groove
3. The O-ring itself is damaged.

For 1. and 2, you just need to tighten the screw after you have cleaned the block.

For 3., well if it is damaged your block should be leaking anyway :D

Fair enough thanks for all the advice, won't have to buy a new CPU block now woohoo, will look into putting The Thing under water as soon as I can.
