670 vs 780... again!

Since I added the second 670, Batman Origins has started to exhibit micro stutter.

Funnily, when there is lots of action is smooth as butter, but when there isn’t much going on and I am just running about, sometimes I will get hitching and stutter.

Is it just the game? Any settings I can change? I've tried adaptive vysnc on and off and still the same.

The only other game I've tried is BF4, and that didn’t have these problems.

My benchmark scores in this game are not very good either.... Im sure SLI is working becuase BF4 is running great, but Batman Origins is now hitching, where with one card it was not.

FRAPS can cause bf4 to crash if you have afterburner running at the same time. Close the latter and it will be fine.

I'm liking my decision to go for a cheap (£140) 670. It's delivering the results of a far more expensive gpu.

The plan is only to keep it for a year +, until Win9/DX12 make an appearance.

Plus at 1200p 2Gb vram shouldnt be too much of a limitation.

The fact is this tc, having one 780 is better (IMO) than having two 670's. Why? If you decide you want more power you can add a 780 later and have much better performance down the line than what two 670's will ever give you. My SLI 670 setup is nowhere near as efficient in games than my SLI 780ti setup.

For now though if you go for one 780 you don't have to worry about SLI issues, like micro-stutter, not to mention that not all games support SLI which leads you back to only one 670 when you've paid for two.

Look here for games that support SLI. You might be shocked that even some recent games you play a lot do not support SLI. For example, Titanfall. My 670 SLI setup is horrible with Titanfall and not to mention you can't even max out Titanfalls textures because the RAM on a 2GB 670 isn't enough whereas now I can play with insane textures even with one 780ti.

opethdisciple please read my post on the previous page in regards to 2GB RAM on a GPU. Titanfall won't use Insane textures with only 2GB of RAM and it also doesn't support SLI. So one popular game right there and you already have an issue.

Thanks for that, was just starting to worry that I might of made the wrong decision in selling my Asus 670 4GB brand new on ebay with the intention to get a 780 3GB or 6GB when I buy my new build when the devil canyon is out in June, your post made me feel much better :)

All I was looking for was a little buff, to see me through the next year or so, untill Win9/Dx12 comes a long.

Although I can afford it, I couldnt justify the outlay on a 780, so I went the cheap route.

I dont mind if some games I have to scale back, but for the most part at my res, 670 SLI is going to be enough.

The 670's are paying for the 780 :D
Ahh, thats a different matter then mate. Tbh, thats what i done myself, albeit my 780 was bought on here for £290.00. cost a fiver iirc after selling the 670's. Saving at the mo to get another 780, but wf cards dont come up for sale very often. Could go for a reference card but it would look a bit odd in my setup.:)

I went from 30 > 60 fps average in Crysis 3 by chucking in another 670 playing at 1440p, max settings (no AA)

The EVGA 670 ftw cost me £130.
An EVGA 780 costs about £380, so would have cost £250 (presuming I got £130 for my reference evga card)

Can a 780 even hold ~60fps in Crysis 3?

You can play Titanfall in SLI, you just have to do some fiddling with settings to make it work

If you dont want to drop money on a new card and dont mind the extra heat/noise/power use then another 670 is a no brainer really

Well I got the EVGA Superclocked 780 for £350 inc free Watchdogs which I'll sell on to reduce things a bit & recoup some cash from the sale of the 670's.
Played some DayZ tonight with it and it seemed smooth enough so will play around more tomorrow before deciding.
