Why are people voting UKIP in the local elections?, are they not aware that this has nothing to do with immigration?.

The European & general I can almost understand, but genuinely would like to hear the reasoning behind voting for them in the locals.

Good to see the racism smear campaign against UKIP created by Labour and Tories hasn't worked. Using the media for those deeds is proper wrong.

I got this image of UKIP getting in power and a statement going out to the whole nation....

"We are doing away with the NHS. But we do have big egg farms now. Look at this... EGGS... I like eggs? Do you like eggs? We all love eggs..... EGGGGZORZ!"

Well done Red and Blue. You know you are rubbish, when even past immigrants are voting for UKIP.

I've already asked, almost pleaded, multiple times for this point.

People are stupid and most just do not understand how it works.

I blame the media.

They should teach this in schools too final year, civic responsibility, would help too.

Ha ha ha ha

Boo hoo boo hoo

I don't think conservatives losing councils seats is boo hoo hoo badcompany, i think its brilliant.

i just think people voting on national agendas in local elections is a shame.

i even screen shot this as an example of just how stupid it is when thats your genuine reply.

wow sounds like a high ground stance but it just hightlights the point.

Election seat losses and gains so far (updated)

LAB +77
CON -94
UKIP +86
LD -76

Council Control changes

LAB +1
CON -8
UKIP 0
LD -1
NOC +8

So, nice to see UKIP is mainly just battering the Conservative vote with lots of lost seats but thankfully not enough to give UKIP any overall control.

Good seat gains for labour, showing how unrepresentative these forums are ;)

I can imagine the MEP results will have a much heavier UKIP weighting.

I absolutely 100% want ukip to get an overall majority in at least one London borough and see how they do.

In fact thats in their interest to prove the people they stand are not one dimensional, but have a bit of skill too.

Did anyone actually think that nonsense poll on this thread was even remotely in line with reality? they would have to be borderline braindead... this forum has always been the unofficial dailymail forums with the hateful lunatics you get posting here.

I really can't understand the argument that "OMG UKIP ARE ONE DIMENSIONAL" and "OMG HAVE NO REAL PROPER POLICIES".

I mean since it was made clear that no party is required to stick to any of the terms set out in their manifesto or any of the promises made before the election, whoever you vote for it's just a complete and utter lottery.

The whole system requires a huge "leap of faith" on the part of the population - by voting you don't necessarily expect the party to do a good job, you just hope they will.

To quote BBC news this morning...

"Nationally, UKIP is averaging around 28% of the vote where it is contesting...."

Which isn't too far from the 29% on the forum... So it isn't too far from the truth.

While many manifesto pledges are ignored again, this isn't what the local elections are about.

Essentially a huge number of well performing Conservative & Liberal Democrat local representitives have been displaced because the reactionary electorate doesn't seem to even understand the difference between the local, EU & general elections.

Why on earth would you ever want to vote for UKIP if you are worried about the level of national health care? Utter madness.

.

Well I wouldn't want them in government but seeing as there's no "none of the above" box, and that I also support a balanced immigration policy between "floodgates open" and "send them back", I'm not losing sleep over a protest vote in the EU elections - I do however take the council elections seriously... no need to kick the current lot in the crotch as they're doing a good job.

If the mudslinging and insults are starting up again and Polly Toynbee is upset this morning, then something must be right. :D

I agree but this has been the case for years now. When the population get desperate they resort to doing things like this to send an overall message to the main parties, in the hope that things might change.

Is it how the locals should work? Nope, not at all and I sympathise. But what has happened over the past 24 hours is just the proverbial birds coming home to roost for a lot of parties, parties containing MPs who treat their job like it's some kind of joke.

As to voting UKIP - how do we specifically know they will be disaster? They might well turn out to be better than those who they displaced.
