One of the things that has always puzzled me about the Pro/Anti EU/Immigration/Etc argument and the pro/anti UKIP argument is the continual obsession about "The Economy"
All the evidence presented on the issue seems to suggest that the
economic effects are actually pretty neutral (IE No great advantage, No great disadvantage) and therefore, in fact, largely irrelevant.
The issues, to my mind, lie in rather different areas.
Although this is by no means likely to be the
only area of concern, I nevertheless suspect that the pros/antis can be
mostly separated by the answers to the following question...;
Q Consider the construction of a (Rather large) Mosque at
Poitiers some years ago.
Do you...?
a) Consider this to be an expression of religious freedom entirely consistent with a modern 21st century liberal democratic society!
or
b) Consider this to be a sinister and deeply threatening political gesture intended to send the same message to the "Natives" that Edward 1's castles were intended to send the Welsh!
So, whats it to be? A or B
