What have you done to your car today?

30 removals a day?! What do you do!?

I do a bit of everything - test purchasing for shops (age restricted products such as alcohol, cigarettes, gambling etc), buying and selling electronics, electronics repairs and general secretarial/delivery work for a law firm. Tomorrow for instance, I'm buying some laptops in south east london, then inspecting shops all over Essex/Ilford/Chigwell, and I'm aiming to be in Richmond in the evening to sort out some email issues for a client.

Annoyingly, a lot of the trips are say 1-2 miles from each other, but if you're doing so many in a day, choosing to walk between them instead of drive just takes up too much time. Hence the need for a sat nav stuck to the screen permanently. I've been considering a kind of phone mount type arrangement and using an app called waze, but I often need to take calls when I'm driving and as my car wasn't spec'd with bluetooth for some ridiculous reason, I'd lose the map every time I needed to answer a call.

Considered using your phone for nav? You can then get a mount (Brodit for the win) near the radio/vents in the centre console and leave it in place. It looks more like a mobile holder which is less likely to be left in the car than a nav one stuck on the windscreen.

This is what I do - it's clearly a phone holder and it just gets left in place. Mine however is a suction mount for the windscreen.

My friend's got a Brodit mount and I've considered getting one. Problem is, I need something easily swappable between two cars, and I'm not sure how well my phone battery would last with so many charges per day. I also use the phone got music/calls when in the car, which would interrupt the nav application. Still an option to consider though, and I'll be doing it today with a standard mount so we'll see how it goes.

Why not use a dashboard bean bag mount?

I've used these on several cars, and I really like the fact I can quickly lift it off the dash when entering car parks in less desirable areas where its not unknown for people to watch for cars arriving with sat navs before they put them away.

In my cars I've had enough room to put the bean bag with sat nav still attached in the glove box which was ideal for stops during the day.

I think I've seen those in Maplins so might take a look tomorrow - thanks. Although I've been using my phone as a nav all day today and it's annoyed me just as much as I thought it would, so I reckon I'll be getting another standalone unit.

Get a double din nav unit? Never need to remove that then.

The dash screen is integrated into the climate control systems and everything so as far as I'm aware there's no simple way to install an aftermarket HU.

The rain forest has them via resellers, as do a number of places. A Google on "Arkon dash bean bag" will bring up plenty of options as well as videos.

I won't never go back to a direct screen mount now.

Sourced this well looked after E39 Sport steering wheel today and also booked the car in to have the back box replaced with a bargain priced OE Sport back box this Friday.

The amount of money I've so far thrown at my car in retfrofitting various bits would have netted me a mint Champagne II but hey ho. :p

After 40 day's i received my vag come interface. I manage to install the drivers and successfully scan my car, clear a error code and manage to disable tmps warning from instrument cluster.

There are so many small bits you can change, its worth having a look through. I enabled the door locking when above ~5mph and hazard lights coming on if under emergency braking.

Thank you for that! I will look through and see what i can find. I found how to retract the rear caliper for when i need to change the disc pads.
PS
On may way to the car to see if i can find those option.

ps1
I mange to find only door looking.

Where to look for hazard lights on when performing an emergency brake?

Has anyone ever used Auto Windscreens for replacing glass?

Admiral have booked me in with them (last time it was with autoglass). Reviews seem mixed on this company though, some horror stories a few years ago but from recent reviews appear okay...

I guess it all comes down to the branch/technician you get on the day. :o

Done my e46, everything was fine including not making a mess of the corner area where its easy to spray the adhesive everywhere. Wasn't BMW glass, looked exactly the same though

Did my E39. Fitted a screen with a block tint shade band, whereas the factory screen had a graduated tint (ie the tint fades away to nothing with no defined change point). Sounds like nothing but quite noticeable really. Claimed the cheap crap glass they fit didn't come in a graduated tint and refused to do anything about it.
