It was a nice dream whilst it lasted.

I don't think this is the problem but just check it's not auto zeroing and removing all the coasting from your rides inflating the power number. I did think that if you uploaded to Strava it didn't do that though.

Quite a lot of information on calibration and auto zero out there, weight weenies forum was a good resource amongst others.

Auto zero is ensuring the measurement returns to zero when there is no torque. The setting to remove zeros / coasting thus upping your average is something else that I can't remember the name of. Whatever it's called it's set to include coasting in my recordings.

I'll try a zero torque calibration tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.

So... had a look at my hubs today as the bike shop I took my bike to to arrange wheel truing were concerned about how my rear wheel was sucking. Front hub wasn't too bad and regreasing/new bearings went quite well. Rear hub I somehow lost one of the spacer nut things for the axle.

I didn't realise this for a while and spent a good few hours trying to work out wtf I had messed up.

I eventually realised what had happened and decided the best thing to do is to just got to an LBS tomorrow morning.

Got this route planned for Friday assuming the weather is OK. furthest I've done before is 60 miles wish me luck!

Post a link! Can't see a thing on there!

Callibrated this morning.

Initial reading was 57 so I assume that was the drift. Numbers looked much more realistic on the was in.

Cheers all.

I realise this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string?' type question but... How much would I need to spend on a road bike to see an improvement over the hybrid/commuter that I'm currently riding? The bike in question is a Claud Butler Urban 200 on 700C wheels running Shimano Tourney kit. Not a bad bike but a bit of a tank at 30 LBS out of the box.

I was thinking that the entry level Planet X bike would be a decent upgrade but I then look at something like a Dawes Giro 300 at less than half the price and wonder if for an amateur like me that would be all the bike I'll need?

I'll be keeping the hybrid, kitting it out with full mudguards and lights and running it as a wet/winter bike as a quick look on ebay shows that it is worth more to me than the paltry sum they sell for second hand.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I've been selling a lot if stuff recently and have dismantled the Scott and Burls ready to sell them as well. All this was in anticipation of buying. Look 596 TT frame with Red gruppo that was on eBay.

I was fantasising about it.

Auction has ended with 36 hours left.

Gutted.

I also have a cold that hurts my face.

It's not a good week.

Dropped off my bike with Withington Cycles to finish off the rear hub for me. Bit miffed as I called ahead to check I could just purchase a replacement washer/spacer (which they said was okay) but once I got there they were very insistant that I leave the bike there for them to do the job. Fair enough, they can probably do it better than me but I have an hour to kill before I need to be back at work and it's just putting a washer on and adjusting the spacing. Sigh. Hopefully they will fit it in today but could well be tomorrow. Really frustrating.

The error may increase exponentially as you increase power so you definitely need to calibrate every ride I think.

I've found that on a calm day riding on your own the Strava power figures are within maybe 10% of a power meter. Throw winds, other riders and other variables in and it gets way more inaccurate though.

Damn, that is a sexy looking frame too.

I took delivery of my Boardman Team Carbon last night and despite having to deal with the chimps at Halfords to get it, I'm loving it so far.

It feels very, very different to the full suspension MTB that I'm used to. Much quicker on the roads though!

I feel your frustration. Its for reasons like this that I try to do everything myself so I can avoid taking my bike to the shop. I love doing the work myself, it works out cheaper, and I have much more control over everything, I learn a lot, and eventually I end up with all the tools.

Myself personally and some of my mates have had some negative experiences when it comes to how long it takes to get things done Vs the times we were told it would take. It becomes a PITA chasing things up.

oops! this has turned into a rant

Anyone want to cheer me up?

As you know I'm riding the London100 for charity. I'm currently one of the top two fund raisers for Bliss and if I'm still in that position on Monday then I get to go for a track training session with Laura Trott at the Olympic velodrome.

Laura frickin' Trott.

So, if anyone has a bit of spare cash then I'd appreciate anything that you may wish to donate; http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/ChrisWilliams33

Cheers all!
