Started getting this error today :

Unsure what is causing it, the SSD isn't dead I'm using it now... but occasionally after restarting or booting up in the morning I'm greeted with this error.

I've got the 256Gb version which I'm using as my OS and apps drive, a 128Gb m4 for steam and a 1TB HDD for media. At first I thought it might be a conflict in the bios trying to boot off the other SSD but that doesn't appear to be the case either.

A clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro was installed afew weeks ago.

Any other ideas? Cheers!

Check latest firmware on the SSD and latest BIOS on the motherboard, and re-seat cables.

seemslike cold boot issue, usually ram or imc voltage related

what board? latest bios and rst drivers?

Check latest firmware on the SSD and latest BIOS on the motherboard, and re-seat cables.

The motherboard is the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP4 TH, all drivers and BIOS are upto date.

Same issue I had with my Crucial M4 drive, it was the firmware

Currently there are no other firmwares available for the M550, nor can I find any other users experiencing problems on the internet.
I redid all of the boot priorities and orders in the BIOS and it seems to be working fine again currently...

I have the same board as you,but im running a modded f11c bios with latest drivers/roms

no issue here but with Samsung 840 pro

GA-Z77X-UP4TH BIOS F11c mod3

can recommend that bios no issues with it

what memory you using and how much? if 16gb you might need touch more qpi/vtt for any cold boots

Will using this custom BIOS make much of a difference? My PC has been stable since it was built, just adding in this new SSD has introduced problems.
As for memory I'm using 16Gb (4 sticks) of Crucial Ballistix Elite at 800Mhz.

I had the same problem with my M4 Drive ...

What sort of problems exactly? How did you resolve them?

Speaking of problems I just got another one my PC just locked up and blue screened while browsing on Chrome, on restart Windows entered recovery mode and the SSD wasn't visible in the BIOS. Working again after I flicked the power switch off on the PSU for afew minutes and back on again... :/

that's not ssd,its more likely memory related

what memory and how much are you using?

that bios has all the latest roms/drivers so would probably be more stable? I run mine at 4.8ghz on it and its fine

if it crashes in chrome it could be either memory or graphic card driver

I'm using 16Gb (4 sticks) of Crucial Ballistix Elite PC3-12800, I will update the BIOS and perhaps run some memory diagnostics?

The only time that it has blue screened has been during the use of Chrome, it's fine playing games and doing other tasks such as 3D and video renders.

Also if it isn't to do with the SSD how come it disappears from in the BIOS?

sometimes it will corrupt the cmos if it crashes badly and wont detect hdd/ssd

could be faulty ssd but could also be memory related

what motherboard? for 16gb you might need 1.10v cpu/vtt rather than auto or stock 1.05v

RMA the drive. If the new drive does the same thing, then you know it wasn't the drive! =)

I think its is the drive, i'm having similar issues with my m550 (blue screen then reboot which then enters recovery mode where the ssd isn't seen in the bios, power cycle and all is well till next time). there are several with the same issue reported on the crucial forums. I've narrowed it down to the drive as my system is rock solid with crucial m4. Although it is probably worth checking your memory with memtest as i don't have a cold boot issue at all.

What graphics card do you have? I'm on nvidia, I rolled back to a previous driver from the latest WHQL and my problems appear to have disappeared for now...

my card is nvidia too, using the latest whql driver version. I have also enabled hot-plug for the port the ssd is attached to as recommended on the crucial forum thread and it has behaved ok so far...

Although it seems to happen every 4 or 5 days but as yet i can't see a pattern, only that the drive goes offline and doesn't get re-detected until a full power cycle.

Thats the risk though of getting a drive just after launch hopefully some firmware updates and it'll be as solid as my old crucial m4 and c300 drives.
