Work / Play balance

I work as little as I can if I'm being honest, I hate my job.

Tend to work early in the morning, finish early, enjoy the afternoon and the evening, don't ever work over my hours unless I'm well compensated for it. I fully plan to retire at 50 - not interested in buying a second home or a big flashy car or any of that - I can live frugally - 50 and I'm out.

The government can eat a meaty one trying to rob me of my life making me work til I'm practically dead.

See I really enjoy my job so I feel like going the extra mile. Good pension, Nice benefits, work gym, good holiday.

My job pays well and has just about every perk I could want - the reason is I do it better.

I just think it's dull, joyless, mind numbing and usually frustrating as hell.

I basically work 8:30-5:15 (although the hours are quite flexible), the work keeps me intetested and I get paid well for it. Also the people are nice, my boss is pretty ace, so really can't complain! I only have a 20 minute commute (walking) so that leaves me plenty of time to do stuff outside of work.

In a unique situation at the moment. Technically I'm unemployed but I still get payed each month and no it's not benefits. :p I can work my ass off or just sit on it for the rest of the year, I get payed either way. The catch is there is no security and at a any time it could all dry up but 2 years later it's still going and I earn more now than I did then. Future is uncertain and it becomes more competitive each year but new opportunities open up so new areas to explore.

I do a little bit of OT a week, although I'm only on 31 hour contract.

My leisure and home time is more important to me than work, so I choose if I want to do the OT/Extra, but I do a good job when I'm at work.

im doing 39hrs or less over 4 days , my 3 days are spent bodyboarding (local at trebarwith or nip down to crantock or holywell ,cycling on camel trail (at bottom of garden) or walks on the moors ,trying to get on a 3 day shift but this will do for now

Too much work for me at the moment. I'm a full time student entering the last year of my degree in computing. I work 18-20 hours at an IT company doing WAN optimisation where I'm underpaid and under appreciated. By the time I get home, I'm so mentally drained where I just cook dinner at around 6-7, then fall asleep until about 9, then wake up at about 10 and then start getting ready for bed.

Who knows, maybe it will all pay off next year. In this job market, I doubt it but there you go...

I work in the WGK offices in Staines (I don't work for WGK) so can't comment on what it's like to work for them, but it's a really nice office with a gym across the road and good transport links. Could do a lot worse.

BP?

I have a OK job at the moment, it pays enough and I get a couple of hours in the evening for gym and face shooting.
Don't set off to work till 0830 get there around 10, knock off at 1630 and tootle home.

I have an offer on the table from another company for considerably more money, but it would require a lot more hours.

So I think I will be turning it down.

i enjoy my work and work 6 on 3 off 3x 06:30-14:30 3x 14:30-22:30 and 3 off with possible extended shifts if required but due to the times i never seem to be at work too much and as i enjoy it while im there i cant argue too much. I class myself as well paid for what i do and i feel like i have more free time and i am far less stressed then when i worked 4 on 4 off 12 hour shifts but that was at a different company where i was paid a lot less for a lot more work.

~37k if my maths is right. Its sort of within reach for me but would mean me doing a fair amount of self study too I think

With current tax rates its 34500, jobs I'm applying for are 32-37k negotiable. Two off my colleagues have already got such jobs annoyingly. Applies for another two yesterday. Office based mon-fri, but have to do site visits and meetings in other offices, so wouldn't be stuck at the same desk all week.
