My i5 2500K has given up, I've had it since the first sandybridges came out and its been overclocked to run at 4.6ghz all this time and I leave my PC on for days at a time. I don't know if this is a normal lifespan for this type of CPU but I'm definitely happy with it.

Unlucky mate :(

Def older than 3 years i am guessing?
Retail chips come with 3 year warranty.

Mine died after 6 months :(
Had been pushing it quit high though for benching....5.5Ghz but ran at 4.8 rest of time.

try n pickup a 2600k/2700k and overclock it using offset so it downclocks at idle

was your 2500k running a fixed voltage?

I would have thought that you could get a nice temp cheapo cpu to stick in the machine to get it working but then when the DC stuff is available there should be a few 3770K that will be reasonably cheap :)

Had 2 die on me :(

Though last time i think it was the motherboard that went out in style and took the cpu with it...dfi lanparty and an opteron chip with a wee overclock on it :)

As said are you 100% sure its the cpu? Only way to be sure is either test your pc with new/2nd hand cpu or put your cpu into a working rig.

I was convinced it was my motherboard so went out and bought a cheap replacement....only to have same problem.

Bought a 3570K and all worked fine...then realised i could RMA the 2600K even though it was 2nd hand and no reciept :)

Good excuse to build a 2nd rig as just needed a case and psu :)

It's somewhat unusual for CPU's to just die on their own especially after only three years then agin if you've been thrashing every day for three years then I guess it possible but it's more likely to be the motherboard that's given up the ghost.
