Anyone think Wagamama restaurants just suck?

Calories != healthy. It depends on the ingredients used. I can assure you that 100% of what I prepare at home is 100% more nutritious and has a much better nutritional profile than anything from sublol.

But you couldn't do that for less than £3, or at least you'd struggle to, so it's all relative.

It's certainly 10x healthier than KFC/McD/BK, and no worse (if not better) than a pre-made supermarket sandwich which millions of us buy every week.

1 chicken breast 80p
1 bag of stir fry veg £1
some rice and curry paste less than £1

There you go healthy, takes about 10 minutes to prepare and beats any subway.

I agree with you, but a chicken breast for 80p? Maybe I've been away too long. Can you really buy one at that price?

And a pack of stir fry veg? Just buy fresh vegetables and use them throughout the week. The packs are massively overpriced.

I dont understand how you couldnt like wgagmamas.
I can only assume you didnt order either chicken chili men or katsu curry...

Yep 5kg/20 breasts for £16 and purely for convenience I like being able to just tip the bag into the wok when I don't get home from the gym and work till 9pm.

Try a more hygienic girl.

lol i asked for that :p

You need to go to better places. Me and the girlfriend always try to eat out at least twice a month, if not once a week, and we go somewhere new every time. It's a great time to try something new and spend a few hours without TV/laptop etc.

You'll regret not doing it when you have kids (if you don't already) because you simply won't be able to.

True True. Yeah i do go out for food a couple of times a month if not more, like you say, i'm just not adventurous and stick to what i know.I guess im a Miser Scrooge Mc Duck with bad taste :P

I do very much prefer a good home cooked meal and enjoy it more than being waited on... yeah im that weird guy that helps clear the table for the waiter when they come to get the empty plates and cringe at silver service meals.

Eat is just a poor man's Pret A Manger.

I think my favourite fast(-ish) food is Leon. Lots of healthy options, tasty, friendly staff and very quick.

Eat and pret are practically the exact same price..... What on earth are you on about. They both sell what they perceive to be posh sarnies and crisps that in reality are garbage and nowhere near as good as a bog standard supermarket equivalent. Leon is more of the same... Terrible food dressed up as something it isn't, served to people, a lot of whom think they are above eating at more common establishments. Hypocriticalaly I've eaten at these places a lot albeit my reason being convenient location to certain places I've worked at.

Back on topic -

Interesting thread. I know a lot of people that rave about wagas. I've been about 3 times and found the experience to be pretty terrible.

Extremely overpriced
Useless staff
What the hell is with the waiter/ waitress scribbling your order all over your tacky paper place mat???!!!
The food is not good
The menu provides hardly any detail and for such a large amount of dishes I struggle to find anything that's really appealing.
It's not Japanese/ Asian or Western, it's just some weird failed hybrid
Sitting in long rubbish uncomfortable wooden benches...

Rant over.

Oh here's an example of a crap restaurant chain.. Pizza Express.

I've been 3 or 4 times in my life, not entirely through choice more convenience or others suggestions and each time was utterly average.

Pizza prices annoy me at the best of times but paying to eat one at this places just winds me up.

Christ i am miserable.

Overrated, bland and expensive. Went once 7 years ago but recently went there again to refresh my disappointment. Spend your money elsewhere!
Stall food from Camden Town is even better by far.

My daily lunch costs me around £3 :). Has around 800 calories, lots of good fats, protein, fibre and vegetables.

I bulk buy my meat from an online butcher or butcher and freeze it. It's a big expense in one go, but depreciate it over a month it works out to be at least 10-15% cheaper than a weekly shop.

I bulk buy extra virgin olive oil from Makro or equivalent. This lasts me 6 months at least.

Bulgar wheat/quinoa/cous cous lasts a month at least so the cost is spread over a that month, and bought by the kilo so that's 3kg spread over several months - again saving a lot of cost after a large initial outlay.

Getting lunch around Canary Wharf in London which has anywhere near the nutritional profile of my own lunch would cost well in excess of £5

Typical lunch - with daily break down of cost (approximate):

250g chicken breast - £1.25
bacon Lardons - £0.25
Mixed salad / spinach - £0.20
Cherry tomatoes - £0.16
Cucumber - £0.15
Bulgar wheat/quinoa/cous cous - £0.10
Mixed seeds - £0.12
Pine nuts - £0.30
Olive oil - £0.10

Takes me less than 10 minutes every morning to prepare - and since I'm cooking my breakfast anyway it makes no odds.

I save in excess of £100 a month cooking my own food for lunch, and with the level of knowledge that I have anyway in nutrition it would be daft of me not to make my own food anyway.

People are lazy. People also don't really understand the poor quality of the food that is put into something like a subway sandwich or premade sandwich. Most of what you pay for are the overheads and the wages - the food products contribute to a very little amount of cost.

I had a quick look on WestingGourmet and ProteinFoods, and the cheapest I can find for chicken breasts delivered is around £1.30 each. Where are they £0.80 each? I'm getting involved!

I appreciate the convenience, but it doesn't take that long to cut some veg. I find it quite relaxing. I know what you mean though getting home late. Many a time I've just thrown on some rice and reheated a batch of chili when getting home late.
