Hello,

If you planning to get married remember that computers and wife's don't get along. So I decided to build desk pc on a budged to make the pc totally invisible. If you are expecting some serious hardware and watercooling look away now !

I'm using my old Casecome case and what ever was inside and that is:

Intel Q6600
Asus p5q Deluxe
Hiper 880W
Gtx 285
DDr2 4gb
500GB HD
AC Freezer xtreme (only decent one within 13cm height)

Plus new white monitor, white speakers and white external dvd,

My plan is to use Aluminum to crate custom case which will slot underneath corner desk, my plan is as well to create guide which will tell you how not to build desk pc, so you will know what mistakes not to do and what to avoid. I'm not going to use and laser cutting or welding or any professional tools. It's only going to be drill and angle grinder to cut (Dremel would be probably better)

My aim is to use my old Hardware as a testing kit to see what temps and noise I'll be getting and if this build will work... If yes then I'll be upgrading to intel refresh.

My old project using ikea desk which I scraped because there was not enough height to do it and I didn't want to use pci-e riser

New project (Squares indicate fan positions) psu will draw air from side and exhaust to the back

My current pc:
Desk arrived from USA and I paid for it £80 incl postage

New speakers

New monitor

For the aluminum panels I paid £14, bottom one is 3mm and sides are 2.5mm grade 5251 cut to measure, I was hoping the company will be able to angle sides for me so then I would only have to attach back to it, but they are only the suppliers so all 3 panels I will have to attach my self using angle brackets, on pic they are taped together

And the plan (Length 530mm by 347mm and height 150mm)

It's not going to be visible but very easily I could cut the top and place some glass or clear acrylic, same with front drawer. My plan is to have only desk and white monitor keyboard and mouse on top no usual cables at the back.

Forget to add dimensions of the case

Bottom is
Length 530mm by 347mm and height 150mm according to SketchUp this is the most optimal size due to desk being in triangle shape.

I would like to get a bit more height so I have more selections of cpu coolers but then the case would be visible as it would stick out from the bottom.

Old case is getting stripped apart but I'll be recycling some of the things like power button, front usb and it will be used as a template to drill holes for motherboard and fans.

According to my wife the most important thing... (pc before this one had two wires ;) )

I had this psu for around 7 years, I'm surprised it's still working

Wasn't sure what should I have next to psu, but I think cpu in the middle is better option then having psu on the left with gpu in the middle

I have started to drill holes for the fans, I'm glad I went for Alluminium and not Steel, Alluminium is much softer but it still will take ages to dril all the holes. I'm using side panel from my old case as a template.
I did not expect this to take soooo long. My neighbors must hate me

I use bolts to keep the side panel in place, even slight movement will mess it up. Then I will have to unscrew he template and go through them again with bigger drill !!!!!
Drilllliiiinnnnngggggggg :eek::eek::eek:

Not much done today, still fighting with fan holes ;)
P1000268.jpg

Easiest way for me to crate motherboard try (like with all my previous builds) I use bolts and two screws which I glue with epoxy so they don't vibrate and go loose, easy and works every time

As you can see I used Angle brackets with countersunk bolts so the psu sits flat.

Still need to do few more corrections, hole for gpu is too small, and need to add
more angle brackets on the bottom part, one next to gpu and cpu and at the end
of psu to minimize any rattling. When everything is done I'll remove the protection
film and glue all bolts with epoxy as for me this is the best way to keep bolts in place.

During this build I did 1 mistake and cut of the heat pipes to make the height less then 13cm I was not aware how important this ends are and at the end had to buy new cpu cooler
P1000255.jpg

For cpu cooler I had two choices
Arctic cooler freezer xtreme and freezer 30
Decided to go for freezer xtreme as it's more quiet. This cpu cooler is not the best for the price but I think it's the only cooler having 12cm fan and only having 13.1cm height
The only problem is that stupid fixing, old one was really bad, new one is better but still I decided to change them for bolts
