What’s new in the Alpha Build

New level: Maelstrom
New boss: Frost Claw
New magic class: Lightning
New enemy types:
- Cult Alchemist
- Cult Witch
- Demon Vex
New feature: Synergies. Synergies are special, legendary spells that can only be cast after charging them through casting two types of magic. Three synergies are available in the Alpha build: Ice Storm, Singularity, and Lightning Elemental
New feature: AMD TressFX technology
Sigil rework (all Sigils). Rebuilt the system that determines how a spell behaves based on its crafting components. Each spell now has a primary augment, which determines whether it is focused on Destruction, Control, or Mastery. The spell’s focus determines its behavior and how its attributes affect that behavior. The Journal contains full details for each Sigil.
Shield System Rework. New system for crafting shields, each with different behavior suited for different play styles. Shield Patterns and Shield-specific Augments drop as loot.
- Agile Shield
- Strategic Shield
- Tactical Shield
Synthesis and Deconstruction Rework. Synthesizing Patterns and Augments yield more appropriate results. Spells can be Deconstructed to retrieve one of the original components.
New spell Patterns. Spells can now be crafted and cast with a greater variety of delivery methods, including:
- Targeted Ray
- Targeted Lob
- AOE Smart Trap
- AOE Pool

The TressFX touch has just increased the cost of the game Iv'e noticed-TressFX isn't free.:p

Developer had previously stated the earlier you purchase the better, as the price increases every so often until final release.

Not played it much apart from the very beginning, great looking game using Cryengine.

Is this the original TressFX or the version 2 they were working on? (guessing there were issues with v1 if they're making a v2 so soon)

This is the (or one of) the game(s) used to demo TrueAudio wasn't it? (I didn't think it worked very well myself)
Is that currently implemented?
Does it use Mantle?

Not sure why I'm asking, game doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Ooh good find tommy. I guess im going to have to get this then. Not sure it's my sort of game so there better be an in game benchmark! :D

Looks a very good game. But am also not sure it's for me. But seeing it's quite cheap I might give this a buy and hold onto it for full release.

Also believe this will support trueaudio. There demo of this seems to use trueaudio much better than we have seen so far. Minus doom 3 that has the best trueaudio yet but sadly not released to public :( just a YouTube video.

Please don't take this the wrong way matt but are you buying this game only because it has tress FX and AMD features ? Are we not gamers and is that not why we buy these cards? I don't care who makes games I will get them of they good. It seems all you play are games with AMD in the credits and shun NVIDIA titles. Again, I'm not having a go as I have no problems with you and you make me chuckle I just find it strange you only play AMD sponsored titles :)

^

Lol, if matt looked through his Steam game list, he'd be embarrassed with the amount of twimtbp titles he actually bought.:D

Any good?

Don't really know how it's going to play out as I haven't played much at all(wanting to hear more TA but that's not implemented yet), it's a very good looking game with high res textures on Cryengine.

The very limited time played, it's looking like a Painkiller'ish, dual wield Skyrim with a touch of Dishonoreds 'blink' hybrid ******* lovechild type game.

Lol. Glad i amuse you, but i got a bigger laugh reading your post. I've got plenty of Nvidia titles, but a lot of them don't run that well. Yes i do shun them as they don't support many great games, in my opinion. I do own a fair few of them though, but have not bought any recently for reasons mentioned. Dicehunter was kind enough to gift me Batman though, but please don't think that is the only TWIMTBP title i own or bought cos theres plenty of others too. Not the first time i faced this tiresome inquisition either from a person with a Nvidia gpu.

It has two tech features that im keen to try. Only reason im buying it. Unknown if ill like the gameplay, but for £18 i don't mind taking a risk. Hope it has a benchmark. :p

***Lichdom: Battlemage update incorporating TRESSFX HAIR V2.0 and True Audio***

New functionality to support for grass and fur
Continuous levels of details (LODs) are designed to improve performance by dynamically adjusting visual detail as TressFX-enabled objects move towards and away from the player’s POV
Improved efficiency with many light sources and shaders via deferred rendering
Superior self-shadowing for better depth and texture in the hair
Even more robust scalability across GPUs of varying performance envelopes (v.s. TressFX 1.0)
Modular code and porting documentation
Stretchiness now respects the laws of physics
and numerous bug fixes!

In general, TressFX 2.0 is a much more detailed, efficient and laws-of-physics-abiding technology than ever before. Awesome!

AMD TRUEAUDIO IN LICHDOM: BATTLEMAGE
With respect to Lichdom: Battlemage, AMD TrueAudio is utilized to calculate an effect called “convolution reverb.” Convolution reverb is a technique that mathematically simulates the echoes (i.e. reverberation) of a real-life location. This effect is accomplished by recording an “impulse response,” which is a snapshot of the echo characteristics of a real-world location. That impulse response is fed back into software that can recreate that behavior in a PC game.

Lichdom: Battlemage uses this technique to make buildings, cathedrals, alleyways and other in-game venues sound quite like they would in real life! In an environment where there are adjacent areas with different echo characteristics and impulse response (example: a cathedral adjacent to a cave and an open space), multiple convolution reverbs must be processed in parallel to create the most realistic sound environment. This effect is automatically enabled when an AMD TrueAudio-capable GPU is configured on the system.

You can experience the convolution reverbs for yourself most prominently in the level immediately following the opening tutorial mission. The soaring caverns and claustrophobic tunnels of the second stage make for an exciting and complex acoustic environment.

@AMDmatt/Warsam/Thracks,

After spotting this article, upon firing Lichdom up, I can't see any options for TA-Thief has a hardware TA toggle, is hardware TA implemented as default or is Lichdom still awaiting the TA update?

I watched total biscuits video other week he seemed to like it. I'll be buying it once TrueAudio is included looks good.

Atm on steam reviews it as 547 positive and 161 negative feedback

I like the subtleties of things like hair and PhysX but this doesn't look like my kind of game unfortunately, so will skip this one. Hope to see more games with TressFX though.
