Games EA and SEGA have destroyed?

Yes but SEGA bought out FM breaking up the original CM, really I should be annoyed with the Devs for selling out but I just want to see out of interest what sort of hand EA/SEGA have played in the destruction of games.

Selling out? From one big publisher to another? A lots of ifs and buts. I can tell you the game has continued to be successful and is a very good management sim.

There was no dev selling out. As far as I remember, SI split from EIDOS just before SCi bought out the money troubled EIDOS. Part of that break away deal was that SI kept their code and database and copyrights. While EIDOS kept the name "Championship Manager" and the UI.

So they never sold out, as they retained all their original code and data. Sega/Square had to design a new engine to power the new Championship Manager.

In all essence, Football Manager is still the original Championship Manager games.

This is 100% correct and Sega more or less leaves SI alone to get on with it. Total War is a little different but I don't really blame that on Sega either, I think that's mnore to do with over-ambition on the part of CA while not focusing on the core-gameplay enough.

Im a sucker for the megadrive sonic the hedgehog releases, and no matter how hard i try to like the 3D games, they will never capture that magic again. The soundtrack on sonic 3 and knuckles was flawless also, i think soundtracks are overlooked nowadays and expect people to just love the game because of a name...

Tiger Woods. No longer any offline co-op on the same PC, just to try and sell more licences and make people game on the internet.

No longer can people get their mates round for a round of beer-induced PC golf on the sofa unless they stick to TW07 etc.

It seems a lot of people in this thread are suffering from a big dose of nostalgia. We all know that games are terrible these days and they were so much better years ago.

Try and be specific about whose particular points you're disagreeing with otherwise you're just being overly emotive. Nobody's actually said that games are terrible these days. There are some great games, but it's true for example that EA have destroyed Tiger Woods.

While I'm not disputing that some games are worse off than they used to be, it doesn't help with people saying a series is destroyed just because they do not like the new games. Aa for Tiger Woods, didn't EA always have the license? Could easily be the developers who are running out of ideas.

Not a game but Origin "powered by EA" that is terrible as you can't get refunds if the game your bought doesn't actually work.

Lord of the rings was also ruined by EA.

Really? I thought you could return any game on Origin within 24 hours (or within 7 days if you've not played it) for a full refund.

Total War series - Rome 2 was just awful.

Syndicate - why oh why?

Battlefield - more is less sometimes

and good call on CoH. - first one was epic the second oh dear.

Can anyone name any game series/IP that improved after being acquired by EA?

I think a lot of them got better before they got worse. Theme Hospital and the first 2 Dungeon Keeper games where released by Bulldog after they were bought by EA. As was C&C Red Alert 2 and C&C Generals after they bought Westwood.

You could also argue that PopCap have done well after being bought.

Battlefield. BF2 was absolutely fantastic and way ahead of the times. The current drivel they released always needs patching, did not even work on release day, crashes to desktop, is buggy and just feels plain unfinished.
BF2 I paid for.
BFBC2 I paid for on release day .
BF3 I paid for on release day
BF4 I paid for on release day

That'll teach them! ;)
