What have you done to your car today?

Changed HCV valve - bugger to do behind a bulkhead and all that. Still have heater full on all time so next up is to source a new heater panel....

Started my old land-rover!

(SIIA)

1) Removed the foliage! ;)
2) Inflated the tyres
3) Primed the fuel pump/carb (Hand primer)
4) Hooked up jump leads
5) Squirted some easy start down the air intake
6) Cranked for about 3 seconds.

And away we went! :D

I think the last time I had this running was over ten years ago!

Not bad going really! (Though I do have a Lumintion on it, I doubt if points would have still worked after all this time. I am surprised that the fuel is still usable on a carb engine though)

Finally let loose with EML327 dongle and software to play with all sort of module settings that Ford don't usually let you play with. Some useful, some rather annoying and rapidly turned off again.

Killed off the turbo completely :/

I'd love to but it would mean getting bigger MAF, injectors, nistune ecu and mapping too. I can't afford it right now, I have other running issues to fix and a deadline of 31 july to have it perfect for track use. Indeed, I need it to go to work on Monday so I've had to buy a journal bearing t28 to tide me over which is a downgrade and makes me unhappy.

I've started taking it apart and I'm kind of glad I was forced into it because half the bolts were loose on the manifold and turbo. There's an absolutely hilarious amount of play in the shaft though, both radial and axial.

The imported car was fine, it's stuff from the UK which has gone wrong. The turbo was noisy from day one, I should have put a brand new turbo on it and this wouldn't have been an issue. For what I paid for it, I'm not even mad that it blew up after 6 weeks.

Sod all boost in the Starlet atm, can't detect any loud whistling though, but it's just taking aaaagggessss to get up to 0.8bar. Hope it's nowt serious, but I can't really find anything off with the I/C piping.

I know the turbo was packing up though (exhaust oil seals), maybe it's something to do with that. Oh well, got a stock one in the shed that I'll get sent off to Midland Turbo, rebuilt, have the wastegate flap welded up (due to my ext w/g setup) and rotated slightly.

Fair enough then man.

This is what me and my mates have been up to last few days, re-shelling my Evo 4 track car into a great condition Evo 6 shell, long way to go yet but the 6 is now running and driving but need a couple days rest before I crack on :)

Haha yeah I was lucky to borrow the workshop from someone in my Family for a few months between lease holders, new people move in end of this month so had to get the swap done asap, it was a workshop for lorries and has a massive winch system, you can see it holding up the blue evo in the pic :)

Yeah tell us more, is it a permanent place? Could almost be an abandoned factory you've taken over !

I wish it was as its huge inside but unfortunately no, after the end of the month I wont have use of it any more, shame but it was a big favour and I was very thankful for the space for the time I had it :)
