Mark McConville = Legend

If you honestly believe that it's racist to support another nation then yes I will belittle you. You still haven't said what detriment or even who in particular has been discriminated against.

You're arguing you can't support an international team, seriously?

Fml talk about missing the point. As my post above says, it's not about supporting another team. It's about numbers of Scottish and other home nations basically following the mantra of 'anyone but England'. They don't support a team. They just wish ill upon England and the English.
It's discrimination against the nation as a whole projected through a thin veil of sporting mantra.
If I walked up to a black guy, just any black guy and said I hope you lose because you're black. That would be racism. Substitute black with English.

You're confusing supporting ABE, with actually being "racist" towards the English. Maybe this guy is a racist and in his day to life abuses English people because he's a **** but maybe he doesn't.

Don't confuse sporting rivalry with a genuine hate.

How can it be a sporting rivalry when your nation isn't even involved!? For it to be a rivalry both parties need to be present or at least have some investment.

Thought it was a little cringe earlier - but the reaction has been special LOL.

It was the number 1 article on the BBC site ffs. :o

We were involved, we're just too crap to get past the qualifier round.

I would never expect a rival derby club fan at club level to support my team in say Europe and I wouldn't pass negative comment if they even supported the opposition despite there being a benefit to their club in UEFA coefficients improving if we did well.

The sad thing is, is that there are people out there where things like this actually mean something to them.

It's like, Scotland, nobody cares fellas, really.

Come on Jokester, there is a clear difference between supporting another nation because you like them for whatever reason, and temporarily supporting another team for 90 minutes whilst wearing your home nation's shirt and silly tartan hat for the sole reason that you hate who they are playing.

I think 'racism' is a bit strong so don't fully agree with Dis86 but to act like this guy is just a bloke who has a soft spot for Uruguay is just as daft.

I love when England lose at the football because they never shut the **** up about it being the year they're going to win it and the tears of disappointment are delicious.

There is absolute nothing I delight in more than seeing the England team get beat, at the Euros or the World Cup, despite following the exact same players during the week with the regular football season. Mostly because I enjoy watching how much it winds up the England fans and how easily England fans can be wound up.

INGERLAN'!

I don't think anyone has actually said he had a serious affection for Uruguay. It's like a Man City fan being berated for supporting who ever Man Utd are playing, it's a sporting rivalry that maybe some people don't understand it and maybe this guy really is a rabid Anglophobe in which case yeah the guy is just a *****.

As he is in Brazil probably!

He was supporting Uruguay in 2010 too. He loves South America. I guess you have to support someone if your team aren't in it. England fans will need to support a second team at this rate!

To be fair, you are being pretty retarded

I have no problem with sporting rivalry banter. Got no issues with Scottish fans ribbing English fans at work over our elimination or any bragging following a defeat when we play each other.

But when someone clearly goes out of their way, at high personal expense to get one over on their rivals then in my opinion it goes further than just banter. For example I'm not a Liverpool fan but I still thought it was pathetic when a group of Man U fans paid for a plane to fly over Anfield rubbing in their loss of the title.
