Show us your kitty cats

After moving home and landing in Reigate, the house seemed empty so I've just put down the deposit for these two lovely little fur balls who are fraternal twins (boy and girl) and I couldn't bare to split them up :( So they're both mine :)

They're only 3 to 4 weeks old at the moment, so I still have a month before I pick them up but absolutely cannot wait to get them :D But they're never going to stay this size especially as they're Maine Coons

Hey Praetorian welcome to the club, prepare for some fun times ahead lol. My boys are now 7 months old and near enough 4.5kg lol :) If you want any tips or anything let me know. What age are you getting them, as it should be 12 weeks if its a good breeder? Also I don't know if you have had kittys before but start early with the brushing, toe nail cutting etc. Also if you can get them used to baths it is a blessing as my 2 boys do seem lacking in cleaning the poo off their bums rofl. Oh and get a toothbrush kit and start brushing asap, I have a good guide if you want it. I say this as I had my boys neutered recently and they noticed they had sore/red gums and I had no clue!! This is the first signs they maybe getting gingivitis which is not good if left untreated. Anyway I will shutup now, they are very cute kittys and you'll love having them :)

Hehe, oh just looking at them I know I'm going to be in for some absolute fun times AFK :D And I'm looking forward to it! Am getting them from a very highly respected breeder, Kylyjocoonz in Essex and she definitely will not let them go before they're 12-14 weeks old. She actually won't let anybody visit them prior to them being ready as she doesn't want to risk them being exposed to anything, which I wholeheartedly agree with!

Will definitely be in touch though as I'm sure I'm going to have my hands full with these little guys :D First thing is to get them microchipped and neutered which its better whilst they're younglings.

Are yours house cats or do they roam where they like? I'm on a very quiet cul de sac so they can roam all they want to if they like but I know from others friends that they don't like to go very far from home :)

My boys are house cats but I have been getting them used to going on a harness since they were 5 months old and now after they have been nueutred (did this at 6 months on advice of my breeder Majesticoons, all worked out fine) they have been going outside with me for about 2 weeks now. They first off just sat there looking terrified lol but now they are roaming around and getting used to bikes, running people and everything else lol!!!

I personally don't want them roaming round as I live in a cul de sac to but it isn't super quite and expensive breeds of cats are at risk of being stolen and this isn't the best neighbourhood. They are perfectly happy indoors as I have a nice large climing frame and a huge cat tree. They love racing all over the climbing frame and the cat tree its awesome to watch. I will also eventually build them a cattery out the back but I have to have a major makeover of the garden first!!

I almost forgot to ask, what colour are they as its not 100% clear from the picture? It wasn't quite sure what colour my boys would be as the father is a tabby and the mother is a blue so it was interesting seeing them grow as they did seem to be more tabby than blue. But now they are definitely more like a silver and black colouring which is awesome as I wanted a silver colour in the first place!!

Think I'm going to be doing the same .. house cats but taking them out on a harness to get them accustomed to the different sights and sounds :) I share the same concerns as you though, expensive breed and they're almost too trusting and wouldn't want anything to happen to them if I can help it! :)

They're silver tabby at the moment even though that may change as the parents are exactly the same as yours .. mum is a blue and dad is a tabby :) I was actually going for a ginger/white mix but now I see the silver more and more its an absolutely beautiful colour but I know they don't stop growing until they're in their teenage months and even longer hehe. Its going to be fantastic watching them grow and having fun with them.

When she told me that they were mine, I did actually let out a little girlie squeal :D Sad I know but having swooned over the breed for so long and missing the birthing season, I had set my heart on next year .. so was a lovely surprise :D

Wow very similar experience to me to. I have been wanting my own cats for 10 years (renting so couldn't have pets) and pretty much for 6 years have wanted a MC. I then finally got my house 2.5 years ago and thought finally I can get my MC's. But then work interfered with sending me abroad for long periods so I actually was in contact with Majesticoon for a year!!! I finally got my boys in Feb this year and its been awesome!!

As for the growing you do realise they keep growing till there around 4-5 years old lol? I am pretty sure my boys will hit the 8kg mark as both their mother and father come from big families. I really am not looking forward to the occasions when they both want cuddles and I have 16kg sitting on my chest!!!

Definitely very similar position :) LOL! Yep I fully expect them to not stop growing until then. Where I got teenage months, I will never know :( From the pictures I've seen, mum and especially dad were fairly big as well so I can imagine mine are going to be just as big :D

HAHA! Awww you'll love it really, although not at first when you're going purple and they're staring at you wondering what is going on :P

Ha yeah, may invest in a metal support cage or something lol!! Its not too bad at the moment when there both on me and that is 8kg or just over. I don't think it will be too bad actually as they grow so slowly I will hopefully just get stronger chest muscles lol!!

If they are pedigree Maine Coons, the breeder wont let the kittens go until week 12 or 13 (ie. after their final injections). I think you should clarify this with the breeder.

I take mine for walks and let them roam the garden under supervision so it's not like they "never leave the house in their entire life". I don't know why I am biting but since my two are rescues, rather give them a loving home where they are looked after better than I look after myself than be put down or spend their days in a tiny cage (as they are usually kept at a vet, rescue home etc).

House cats? Would you enjoy never leaving your house in your entire life?

I guess everyone has to make their own decision about how to look after their cats. If a cat has never been outside then it won't know what it is missing - looking out of the window will be exciting to them.
I also hear about pedigree cats being stolen - so there is another reason for cats to stay inside.

We have always let the cats we own out. The sun is good for their coat, the general environment is also good for healthy coats and claw control and of course they have a natural instinct to hunt - something they can do only very little of inside.
Being outdoor cats also gives them the ability to socialise with other cats and to establish themselves into the wider cat community.
However higher risk of injury, higher risk of vehicle related death - so an outdoor cat has got to have insurance.

We have always let ours out as soon as they have settled (with the exception of one who manged to escape on only his second day with us from rescue - thankfully he returned, looking very sheepish within 30 minutes).

But it's down to each owner at the end of the day.

I have a pedigree maine coons, and she is a house cat, she is allowed out to have a look around supervised but other than that she lives indoors.

She will look out the windows and doesn't even seem to notice or care about other cats, birds etc.

The other reason is often hear cat fights, stories of people using air rifles on cats, being stolen, so for me its not worth letting her out even if she is insured

This.

Don't judge other people for keeping their cats 'prisoner', we have their best interests at heart at the end of the day.

Relatively rare... such an occurrence as mentioned by Nikumba.

Cats are outdoor animals... even the "domesticated" ones... mine get so upset when they can't go out for a few days... as have others we've had in the past, it's like night and day in their behaviour, you can clearly see the unhappiness of being stuck inside.

I would not like to keep them locked inside based on my own fears of what might happen to them, leading to them living an less happy life simply because I'm scared of what someone else might do to them. That's incredibly selfish... they are living animals too, you know...

Say it was as simple as this... given the choice... would you rather live:

- a short & happy life
- a long & unhappy life

??

To be blunt, I would say you don't know what their best interests are, you are only really considering yours... not meant as an attack by any means, only a statement of my interpretation.

I won't judge you for it, there is no benefit in it & I completely understand your viewpoint... I was destroyed inside when one of my little ones was run over by a car... it felt like i lost a child and i still haven't fully recovered from it. But he was so excited to go outside that day, I'd make the same choice to let him out, safe in the knowledge that that's what he wanted, rather than me trying to overly-protect him.

Silly little bugger had no sense of direction, what-so-ever... he used to jump over a couple of fences and get lost, he'd head on in to a neighbour's house, curl up on the sofa - and they'd call us or bring him back a few hours later lol... must've been at least 4 different neighbours in his short 6-9 months at that house!
