You can't really play him in a midfield two though. I'm not exactly sure how we're going to line up at the moment given the players we have.
None of our wingers are good so we should ignore them all to start with.
We could play Rooney and RvP up top, Mata behind, Herrera/Carrick/Fellaini as a midfield 3, with Shaw and Rafael providing width. Something like that perhaps.

LvG prefers 4-3-3 but has been playing 3-5-2 because Holland have a lack of quality at the back, will be nice to see a manger that can change formation when needed and I include Fergie in that.
Rafael and Shaw as wing backs would be a possibility, a flat back 4 when needed.

Problem is Rooney naturally drops off into the Mata position if you go with 3 1 2, Mata's already complained about it.
Would like to see Januzaj break into the team properly on left wing too.
Indeed, LvG won't shoehorn players into a system/position they can't play, I think once he starts training with the team we might make a couple more signings towards the end of the window.
Really do need another central midfielder though, and a centre back. Carrick could perhaps flourish in a midfield 3 with 2 runners alongside him, but I'm not so sure.
Van Gaal will stop Rooney doing that, or he'll drop him.

Really need a good quality leader in the centre of the back three (from Utd's point of view) - Miranda? Lots of rumours but just not sure it will happen.
(seems a little over priced for his age but just not sure of how good his english is given majority of the defence will be English speaking , apart from Rafael of course (unless another centre half arrives as well, but cant see that happening)
And yes ok Evra is naturally French, but Im thinking a bit longer term than the end of this coming season (which Evra should be phased out slowly with Shaw replacing him)

Given what happened with Nani last summer, could just be "protecting Utd's investment"
We could still sell him for £10m (rather than letting him go for nothing).
Apart from Januzaj, he is still Utd best other winger. I dont see the harm really.
