4K testing with SLI Titans on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

Hope Nvidia make a single GPU powerful enough for 4k?

Depends what you mean by "powerful enough", but I guess you mean a single GPU capable of maintaining 60fps in modern D3D11 titles with most settings at maximum (except for AA). If so, then that will take some doing but I reckon that the GTX-900 series will be the answer for this - as by the time they are launched 4K will probably be much more mainstream (whilst the console peasants will still be stuck with 768/900p resolutions ;))

Suprised - I didn't really see any difference in BF4 on my setup between 7 and 8 unless I turned HT off - it does run better on 4 core setups, but with 8 threads was within 1-2fps.

Hate the OS though.

Its a good Os and I'm glad I put up with everyone telling me how much of a huge mistake id made when I bought it last year. Got it when it was £35 ,its very snappy and the boot times almost instant

I had an OEM windows 7 and changed board 3 times. Theres a telephone number pops up when trying to reactivate that gives you a code when rang. Easy fix

I'm still using Windows 7 on my rig itself but I have 8.1 on my laptop, not sure whether it's worth upgrading my desktop to 8.1 at the moment - I suspect that Windows "9" could be out next year to coincide with the launch of DirectX 12, might just hold on until then.

I use a seller from fleabay for peoples pc's I build and its only 40 a key. Trustworthy seller and you would get £25 for windows 7. Worth a punt at £15

If it wasn't for benching, I wouldn't have changed but seeing the improvements to frames in games at normal everyday clocks, I am glad I made the move.

As I say, I can get it for free through DreamSpark Premium but I'll probably still just wait for the next Windows OS as I suspect it's not too far away, would save hassle that way.

Some interesting results mate :)

Indeed, it is good that Microsoft are keeping up with this increasingly parallelised era of modern computing - the increase in performance of highly multi-threaded applications from Windows 7 to 8.1 is pretty significant, hopefully we shall see even more advancements with the next Windows OS, that coupled with DirectX 12 coming out means we could be seeing some truly staggering performance increases in both games and benchmarking software within the next couple of years!

Really enjoy 8.1, haven't even had to bother with the whole 'start shell' stuff, quite like the start menu as is, make sure to learn some of the keyboard shortcuts and its fantastic to use.
