Had my SSD since release 2 years ago now, a Samsung PRO.

Lately I am getting some document save fails when trying to save word documents as filtered HTML documents. Is this just a random MS Word issue or is a sign my HDD could be about to die?

Thanks

my bet would be on MS Word.

if it really was SSD packing it, you'd get all sort of weird issues, random lock ups, freezes, BSOD, drive not being recognized etc.

if it only happens in 1 application, chances are it's the application itself.

what happends when you try to save the file to a different location? even USB stick?

Everything you could want to know about SSD death, especially in the follow up report.

I'd be amazed if you'd managed to a 830/840 Pro in terms of write endurance. May still be faulty but worn out is very unlikely.

Using something like shadowplay with it writing out the shadow cache to disc and capturing to the SSD can hit SSD's pretty hard - not sure if it still works the same way but I put 5TB of writes onto mine with an early verion in less than a week doing that before I changed paths to write out to a HDD :| (at that rate I would have killed the SSD in little over 160 days).
