I just upgraded to 8.1 also, and I thought I would hate it coming from windows 7.

I like it even without the start8 thing, and wont be going back to windows 7.

Same here Ian. I don't use any kind of start tool and have it clean. No problems at all and quite familiar with it all now.

I'm very tempted to get the 4K Samsung on Today Only.
My 3 worries are:
1) the stand is a bit rubbish and I won't be able to set it up how I like.
2) My 290s will struggle to run games at an acceptable framerate.
3) Because my other monitor is a 120Hz screen I'll have issues running the monitors at different refresh rates.

oh and I suppose
4) That I won't be able to get it to line up nicely with my 120Hz monitor (Samsung S23A700D)

Yeah I am the same, it just feels right even though the start screen was mainly designed for touchscreens.

You cannot grumble at 15 second boot up times from the second you press the power button, everything is faster.

Now all I have to figure out is how long do I wait to get another 780 and either a 4k monitor, Or a 144hz offering preferably with 1440 res.

This computer business seems to be getting slower and slower and more expensive every year.

Or maybe I am just getting too old these days.

If there was a 4k 120hz + monitor out now I would be all over it, sadly there are none in the pipeline for a while yet. I just dont know what to get myself coming from a 60hz Samsung, but if I already had a 120hz screen I would probably wait for a 1440 monitor at 144hz or wait for some 120hz 4k ones.

Gregster obviously likes his 4k screen but my niggle is I have not tried 120hz or 144hz ones myself.

Its crazy tho how 1600 pounds or more worth of GFX cards can only get to around 50 fps on certain games at that resolution some games only averaging around 30 fps carzy.

Good work on this thread tho kind of makes re consider 4k monitors

Yup, gotta be nuttttttttttttts to go 4k yet. The GPU horsepower to maintain decent frames/high detail will be immense :D

I will do some benching later with AA down a touch and will try and grab screenies of the same location to show the IQ differences.

TTL has done a review on his site for a 28" Asus 4K monitor, the figures he got for the 780ti's running the Hitman bench were interesting where they have run out of VRAM.

Some of the other numbers he got were a bit odd too.

went to windows 8 when it was released now 8.1 surprising how quick you get used to it.
Windows 7 seems slow to me now when i use it and that's frustrating lol
