Are you gaming @ 1080p? Might be better to save yourself some money and just get a 290. The 290x isn't that much quicker for the money, but the 290 will be perfect for 1080p.

yeah i mostly game @ 1080p via tv. sometimes i game @ 5760x1080 using 3 monitors in Eyefinity but it gives me a headache..
the reason i'm using an AX1200 is because i was crossfiring the 6990 + 6950.
oh i forgot to say does any of the r9 290 or 290x have the voltage unlocked?
Agree with that card, i have it.
It will bump your performance by about 40% where your CF is working well, best case where CF is not working well it could literally double your performance, the card has more than double the performance of a 6970.
I don't know about them being voltage locked, but personally i would not get them, they have had fan issues.
The fans have been known to leak oil, even seize up.
Google it, here is one example, http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/118704-GTX-780-Leaking-Oil they do it on both vendors as they all use the same fans.
The Powercolor is voltage unlocked. upto 1.3v in MSI AB or 1.4v in Sapphire Trixx.

The PCS+ yes, i don't know about others. do they still sell the reference ones?
Keyword is _had_. Ridiculous that people keep bringing this up.
Go for the MSI or gigabytes, they have an extra year of warranty than other brands and the msi's are well priced. (If they support the voltage unlock)

Oh, I didn't know 780s were voltage locked.
