Tour de France 2014 in UK

and the roads have been improved.

Worth it for this alone, every road off the route is in total disrepair of course as a result but at least some of our roads finally got resurfaced :o. Harrogate especially are terrible for it but thanks to the tour the town centre is now no longer a bone jarring experience, for car or cyclist.

Heh, more fool me for heading over from the decent side of the Pennines to come to your poxy little county, Mr Giggles... I'll be sure not to spend any money while I'm over there...

I can get Eurosport for €3.99/mois to use the player which can be used on any internet device (I can also log into it on my HTPC and then play it through the telly :p).

I think I'll do that.

I used to use the eurosport player before I had eurosport on sky. It was painful :(

My internet was horribly slow but I think that was only part of the problem. The UI was buggy and hard to use as well.
This was a couple of years ago now, so hopefully they have improved things.

...Ah. Well our internet is pretty decent and yeah I'd hope in two years its been improved!

I do wonder...do you know if you can choose commentary?

Eurosport Player was ghastly on my laptop with constant buffering whereas iPlayer in HD is absolutely fine streaming so it can't really be the computer. I blame it on crappy Silverlight. But on the 360 it runs beautifully.

LOL, after using this forum for 10+ years, I have none left.

But why are you suggesting using Eurosport player when you are in France? It must feel like non-stop coverage on France Télévisions 2, 3, 4?

The problem with french tv is that they all speak french :(

It is, TF2, 3 and 4 aren't on normal aerial broadcast though, so we'd need to buy a TV box (like a Freeview decoder I guess), cheapest which we've found is €80 (no big deal I suppose).

The second problem of course is that it's all in French. In a few years time I'd hope that this will be fine, but for now I'd prefer the commentary so I can understand it :p.

So we have the option of Eurosport player which is €48/year and has Le Tour and an awful lot more and the advantage that we can understand it(!!), or a French "Freeviewer" box for €80ish.

OK. I see now.

So when you go to http://www.eurosportplayer.co.uk do you get redirected to http://www.eurosportplayer.fr ? If so, presumably you'll be getting the Euro Eurosport channels rather than the British ones. I don't know whether that's going to be in French or have the option for different language commentaries. Maybe try out the single month €5.99 option before you lock yourself in for 12 months.

If you're planning on accessing stuff through the internet then it's probably worth you simply getting a UK VPN and routing your traffic through that. Quite simple to do and it'll mean you get everything you could get whilst you were living over here (my commiserations :p).

I'd like to see the Schlecks doing well.
Not a massive fan of them but I think it would be nice to see them up there again.

And, of course, Purito will be my fav

My favourite is Geraint Thomas but he never wins anything. :p I did support Andy Schleck in the year of the infamous chaingate but he's gone hopeless as well now. The only one who can stop Chris Froome is probably Contador so that's why I support him.

But UK coverage of the tour isn't great.

Yer it redirects unfortunately so I suspect you're right, I'd have to pull the VPN trick to get eurosport.co.uk anyway.
