I don't know much about the story, but I don't think shooting an endangered species could be considered helping it.
Agree with your point about legal hunting areas sometimes doing good to the environment though.
It's a backwards way of thinking, but the reason some endangered species are still walking is because of these types of hunting grounds, where they are bred for the sole purpose of later being killed. They pay a lot of money to have these types of animals on their walls

I'm neither against or for it, really doesn't bother me. We basically pay Tesco etc the same fee, albeit smaller and instead of the fun of the hunt its for food
