Got round to finishing the story missions the other day, just to get it done with (and because I was sick of hearing the same lines of dialogue over and over again whenever I start the game or end an online activity). Total rubbish from start to finish, how they ever thought that that was a competent enough storyline for a game of this size or ambition is beyond me. There were so many plotholes and missing details that I can only assume the entire thing was written on a colander. No past information given about Aiden such as how he came to be who he is, a startling lack of 'care' by his sister over her dead daughter whenever she's mentioned, the whole 'kidnap' thing even though she never seemed to be in much danger in the first place, and then taking ctOS offline but never actually revealing anything about who Blume are or what their agenda is. Same goes for Dedsec actually, they're just this mysterious entity that broadcasts messages over the radio every now and then. They had all the pieces there yet failed to use any of them.
I'm still chugging along with the fixer missions (albeit rapidly getting sick of doing the same thing over and over), and finding the other 'hidden' (well, as hidden as something can be when there's an icon on the map for it) stuff. The online hacking/observation is still great fun although I'm finding as time goes on, people are getting wiser at realising when they're being invaded and how to find/evade you, but that's to be expected. Disappointed that there are still a good number of bugs and glitches that haven't been fixed. Even if I had been interested in the DLC the lack of support since release would have dissuaded me from giving them any more money.
Plenty to be disappointed about in this game but there's enough that's kept me playing it too. Hopefully they'll use it as a learning exercise for the inevitable sequels, but it does feel like Ubisoft's template these days is to just string a story together and then fill the map with so much filler that you're too distracted to realise the narrative is crap.
