Free .xyz domain

Anyone know how Google treat these extensions? Are the days where the URL has any keyword weight with SEO? There are a couple of domains that are available I'd like but not sure if to bother?

Lol!

Google doesn't recognise the new TLDs for a lot of their services yet. Been trying to get adsense to push through the changes but they're resisting for some unknown reason.

I don't believe any TLDs carry weight more so than others these days. I think its all down to the page now. I imagine some notorious spam havens like .tk would be penalised though.

Then again I have yet to see a new gtld in any of googles top 10 pages yet.

Boom! Done, thanks OP. I've not got a clue about websites or anything, but I am about to have lots of time on my hands, and there's no time like the presence!

I got my surname .xyz but I had to confirm that I wasn't going to infringe on copyright before it allowed me to register it. Apparently it was flagged as a possible trademark.

Managed to get my name as well! I'm surprised, as this thread on GD alone will have registered around 1000 hits over the last 8 hours let alone other forums.

It's an excellent way to grab customers.

10,000 free domains this year means a significant number of auto-renewals when the free year expires.

If someone just makes a domain for the sake of it being free then next year they simply wont renew and it won't make any difference to EuroDNS. However if anyone actually uses their free domain this year, they're almost guaranteed to retain it and renew it and EuroDNS has made a guaranteed customer. That is if they don't transfer-out to another registrar.

First year registration free but renewal will be at normal cost which is £9odd at the moment. Nothing to stop you just letting it expire though.

Cheers for clearing it up. I can't find their policy on transferring the domain. I assume its locked as its an offer.

Actually quite tempted to transfer my domains to them if they can match the deal my current registrar gives me. Much much nicer control panel and they are a little cheaper. (Just trying to find a domain locking option just incase anyone does get into my account).
