Hobbies/Interests away from the PC

Added to that why not go to the gym after work or have a hobby where you can walk all day?

What would be ideal, is some kind of occupation that involved exercise. That would be the sweet spot!

Have you thought about maybe field target shooting? Good way to meet people, relaxing, rewarding, and gets you out and about. I did it for years and I'm yet to find something else I enjoy as much come the weekend. Apart from the obvious.

Reading literature, learn a new language, take up some form of volunteer work in a local food bank or children's home. Take the opportunity to visit cities and landmarks you want to see, take time to just sit and watch the world.

He could become a postman

lol. :D

Buy a guitar. Learn to play your favourite songs. Then impress your friends with all the classics. You'll be the talk of Swindon. People will travel many meters just to mosh in your living room.

A few have said it, but learn a instrument. I found a guitar in my house a few years back and though, screw it, I'll learn guitar. Never looked back since! (You can also learn totally on your own, no money etc. Youtube and online is really useful.)

Well I have a mountain bike so I do go out on that as well and enjoy the odd ride so maybe I should throw that in there also. Just the thought of doing any more exercise is enough though and I have dabbled in various things and although I have enjoyed them maintaining the energy to keep doing it is difficult.

I have been considering an art class of sorts but I don't want to do any form of qualification for it which is mostly what I am finding when searching, I already study something else so doing more of that is a no go for me.
Have also considered photography but it seems very expensive to get into? I like the idea of that urban exploration but would probably need to learn to take a photo first ha.
Also have a motorbike and considering going out on for a ride in a minute, now I have finally charged the battery again.

Photography is only expensive if you want it to be, a lot of people will tell you its not worthwhile if you don't buy x y z DSRL top of the line with 20 lenses.

But to start off? Buy a bridge or similar, as you probably know all hobbies are expensive. IF you become intrested then they will become expensive.

bazzabear if I enjoy it then it won't be a problem but I wouldn't want to spend a lot up front to discover it isn't something I will continue with. An instrument is a good shout, I played a little bit when I was at school and it has come across my mind recently as well.
I could definitely do with meeting more people though so I don't spend so much time doing what ever I decide on my own.

Where would you find time for anything between work and playing spelunky? ;)

What about cookery classes/clubs as that will have long term benefits.
Or volunteer work somewhere will get you out and meeting new people.

Indoor rock climbing looks fun.

Doing some horticulture can be fun. I once grew vegetables in hydroponics outside but that was in south africa, we would grow some vegetables that the local shop wanted in a flood and drain system. It can take a lot of effort to build a system and then learn how to grow as well.

Electronics also looks good, i still want to get in to that and learn how to set up some home automation, like turning on my lights from my phone. Stuff on hackaday.com is great place to start.

You could also learn a specific subject more in depth, I spent a lot of time on economics but recently not read that much.

Just get any compact with manual controls.

I took THOUSANDS of photos with my £100 Canon A60 until the LCD died.

I read a lot. Mostly textbook's and whatnot as I am addicted to learning. Mostly social sciences and philosophy/economics etc. On the more physical front, I am completely addicted to snowboarding. When you're up on that hill nothing else matters but what is right in front of you and it is completely freeing. When the winter comes about I'm up on the hill every weekend.

Then if there's an RC car club near to you, it might be a possibility. The advantage being that I'm sure they'd let you go along and see what's what before you even splash out on your own.

Of course, if there isn't a club near you, then it instantly falls down on the 'meet people' criteria.
