First time driver Insurance group 49

I was with Admiral for my car at 21 with 0 NCB, Bell and Elephant also gave me cheap quotes. Everybody else was pretty expensive but I didn't phone specialist insurers like AF who may have come in even cheaper.

Adrian Flux get recommended all over various car forums. Must be doing something right.

AF were terrible for me, even with a enthusiasts car (306 Rallye).

As for the OP, what about something like a range rover?

Automatic, not too slow, easy to see out of and drive and comfortable, image is pretty good too?

In a similiar vein to the above, give Greenlight Insurance a try. I used to use Adrian Flux but Greenlight/Brentacre always beat them.

You are legally obligated to have insurance to drive, as such there should be cover for every situation. I expect it to be expensive - but will still need it.

This point frustrates me a lot, it is ridiculous the amount of legwork you have to put in at times just to be on the road legally.

I spent the best part of a day trying to get cover on my dads 68 charger and just got rejected quote after quote. Eventually i managed to get a cover at a reasonable price which was with adrian flux.

Just a thought, could you insure in the country your license is from with international (or just UK) cover?

Even if he could, London Police can't be bothered ringing them so they just sieze the car. Happens all the time to Arabs who bring supercars over, with international insurance from their home state.

In addition to the above, you could also try Sky Insurance. A lot of mates I know are with them and very happy.

Were useless for me, I got their info from the TT forum and yet when i tried to get a quote for my new TT they said I would need to be 25 and have a tracker fitted for them to even consider me LOL.

Useless.

Adrian Flux also couldn't get anywhere near what I was expecting to pay

So the quest for insurance begins...

Called Adrian Flux they quoted £1,800 per annum with a a £3,000 excess using xsdirect. I've done a quick check on them and based on feedback they are a sleazy company to deal with.

Tried the moneysupermaket price comparison site and came up with quotes from £1,500 to £4,000. The companies at the bottom of the list (the cheaper ones) all require a £3,000 excess and are not well known. The few i've checked seem to be nightmares to deal with.

Tried Greenlight and waiting for a call back (they need their technical team to look into it).

Brentacre stated the value of the car exceeded their insurance criteria

Also tried a private insurance broker via Hiscox and waiting on feedback.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Are you happy with such a high excess? On a car of the value you're looking at, you'd blow through the excess easily and have to fork out £3k for a few replacement parts.

To be fair though, I'd expect that to drop quite significantly after a year or two of driving so play it safe if it's going to hurt your wallet!

Chris Knott and Sky Insurance have always been good brokers for me, albeit completely different situation you to yours - at least you can actually speak to someone to ask them what they can do for you.

If you have a local newsagent, then I would suggest looking for the likes of Performance BMW, BMW world, or Mercedes Owners etc magazines and then speaking to the companies in the back of those

Or as a off the wall suggestion look on the actual Brands website for there own insurance companies - they actually exsist, normally backed by someone else and they seem to be really good, competative and priced well

its not the same league but my old Puma was insured with Food (backed by RSA) and at about £90 quid elss then anyone else
Just a suggestion for you?
