OK spec me

I always listen to music in stereo, pure and simple, it just sounds muddy and artificial otherwise.

Gaming depends on the game. Games like BF4 or Kingoms of Amalur have headphone modes and you are meant to listen in stereo. Other games don't have a headphone mode and those I select either 6 (5.1) or 8 (7.1) channels and hit the gaming button (dolby headphone with custom profile) though it is probably different on the DX2 (I use the STX).

Yeah the D2X has all the gaming modes etc, its almost same card just with out AMP. Prob more updated audio chip also.
If you select 6 channel and you only have hardware two channel how is that going to work?

Wouldn't you be missing sounds that should be played from surround because you not got them?

That's what Dolby headphone is for, it simulates a 5.1 or a 6.1 speaker set through your headphones.
You need to select 6 or 8 in order for the processor to know what to simulate.

Give BF4 a go Shankly without dolby and set it to headphones in BF4 audio settings. I can pinpoint sniper locations and footsteps easily with this probably because as Rids has said it was made to work this way. Shame more games don't do binaural.

Ok now I have selected 6 channel and Dolby is sounds much better :D I had Dolby and 2 channel enabled.
Out of all the options I think DTS NEO PC set to 6 channel and Movie mode is the best. They is no echo at all and gives good surround.
Will test more tomorrow. Work time :(

I really wanted today, but Dice released DLC lol my poor internet would take 6 hours, so i'll leave it running while I head to work.

Thanks guys

Ah forgot about that, it's about 7gb as well. Another thing in Battlefield I've noticed is some really nice bass effects like you'd hear in a movie when a building collapses or something, very immersive.

Yeah noticed changes in the CSGO audio also. like on Dust2 map they is wind blowing lol never heard it before. its very faint but its there.

How mad?

do you have the unified drivers installed? From here

http://maxedtech.com/

They are much better than the Asus drivers.

What settings do you use in the Asus control panel before you go into a game? I presume you use 8 channels and headphone mode? In CS:GO what speaker setting do you have selected?

Yeah I use them drivers much better than Asus drivers and more updated also.
Atm I using 2 channel and in csgo headphone. But I will have more play around tomorrow test different settings.

Much better? I've never found them to sound any different.

Not too sure you would notice any difference on the STX, maybe the drivers were better for the STX than the lower spec'd cards. The biggest difference wasn't the sound quality though, it was the that features worked and it did improve the dolby headphones mode. Positional audio was much better for me when using the unified drivers rather than asus drivers.

Just my experience with the Xonar DG.

Ah right, yes I did have problems with a Xonar DG - it disappeared for days at a time and then came back, then disappeared, etc. :D
You are right, the STX has it's own drivers and I've never had a problem with them.

I don't think the STX is supported by unified drivers.

Battlefield 4 - Headphones and Stereo is simply stunning. Could hear all sounds around me very easy and pin point all sounds.

So far BF4 is the best yet for game audio with these. Well happy.

The battlefield 4 audio is excellent. I use that game to review a headphones soundstage ability and separation. There's so much going on at once that it really does give a great idea of what a pone can do.
