First time driver Insurance group 49

Depends on your relationship with money - seems you have issues? Else why else would you care so much what a stranger on the internet decides is suitable to pay for his insurance? :)

I don't care what people spend their money on - I will of course suggest it could be spent a better way, but then if they can afford it, although what seems like a waste to us may not be to them so it's fair enough.

Either way the car needs to be insured and he's willing to pay the premium.

I'm fortunate enough to be old enough with enough experience that very few cars will cost that much for me to insure - but if I had to spend more to insure the car I wanted, I'd make sure I save up for it.

I couldn't care less what people earn around me, as long as they do their jobs and do so in a professional and collaborative way that's all that matters to me.

I just want to understand how someone can justify spending so much money on something completely intangible. I'd feel like I was being robbed and it'd still only be a few percent of what I earn.

If you think 1.5k is expensive, you'd probably pass out if I told you how much I've spent on insurance in the past few years :p

I would have paid circa £2k on my L plate 1.6 escort if I had the policy in my name when I was 18 (back in 2005 :p ). but I got put on the policy as named rather than holder.... only double the insurance from £200 to £400 :p or was it to £700.... meh... it was over double the original policy I remember that much haha

LOL. Personally I think salary should be disclosed within the workplace. It's only people who are being paid more than they honestly think they should be that have a problem disclosing it.

I'm distraught that someone is going to waste their money on expensive insurance for a car that nobody else will care about, just so he can sit there thinking people care. More fool him! :o

I think its better not to disclose as people such as yourself may resent it.
I put my girlfriend on my Mazda 3 cost £1200 its a car "nobody else will care about" but I like it. Does that make me a fool also? I get the feeling you would be ok with the cost of the insurance if it was a flashy show off wealth car.

There are rather more reasons than that to want a particular car, though. Besides, whilst now I'd find the idea of paying that much for insurance hilariously farcical, with no NCB and a reasonably new license he doesn't have an awful lot of choice.

Sky Insurance were good for me, on a modded Monaro VXR, insurance group 50 and at 23 it was just £750.

Did you tell then that you drive everywhere with a police escort and that it has an armed guard when unattended? :p

It was an unbelieveable price, considering how expensive body panels are for it. Mind you, I've always been lucky with insurance, my stage 3 Astra VXR was just £750 too at 21.

My 911 was that much at 22!

I'm now down to £680 for a DB9 at 23 with 0 NCB. The trick is all in the post code from what I can gather.

I have a half decent postcode, Dad as a named driver and am limited to 9000 miles per annum, paying £780 for a 1.2 Polo at 19 with 1yr NCB.

What is your postcode pepsilol? Just the first bit? I might move away... :p

To update the thread...

Eventually got sorted with AIG motor insurance. Haven't read through the detailed policy yet but the policy highlights seem encouraging. £1,700 was the eventual figure with a £1,000 excess - though I did settle on a 650i instead of the 640d :D.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions (the haters included :p), wouldn't have found them without the help on here.

21, 0 no claims and a 1.3 Corsa diesel is £1600 with £450 excess.

Not a clue how people think £3000 for that kind of car is expensive.
